Messed Up Tv Plot Lines From The 90s
3 messed up TV plot lines from the 90s

(-- removed HTML --)

To those of us who grew up with 90s TV, it’s something that we look back on fondly. It’s the TV of our childhood. However, there are some plot lines from those 90s shows that are just completely messed up.

1. Pacey and Tamara from Dawson’s Creek

If you don’t remember this plot line you’ve probably blocked it from your memory because it’s seriously messed up. Tamara Jacobs in Dawson’s Creek was Pacey’s English teacher. She was 36 and a divorcee. She was drawn to Pacey because of his maturity. We would just like to point out that even if he was mature he was still a teenager. This relationship was completely creepy and inappropriate on every level. If this relationship was reversed and the teacher was a male and Pacey’s character was a female, the audience would have been up in arms. This plot line also shows the double standard when it comes to these kinds of creepy and illegal relationships.

People’s reactions when Ellen came out on Ellen

When Ellen DeGeneres came out on her TV show Ellen, people’s reactions were completely messed up. Ellen had recently come out in real life as well, so this was doubly hard for her. It should have been a heroic moment for TV, but it wasn’t because of the audience. What happened instead is that sponsors pulled their ads, the studio received a bomb threat, and the show was cancelled within the year. Ellen had the last laugh though as she has a completely successful talk show that’s been on the air for years and where she can be herself with no apologies.

The first topic that should be explored in this case should be whether or not sexual discrimination came into play. This could have been a major part in this case because shortly after Elaine was fired Jerry hired Kramer a man to do the same job with less job experience and education. When looking for an applicant for a job both qualities are looked at extensively for a position because it would make them a better attribute to the company. This termination could be looked at as unethical or wrong because she was the right person for the job but was replaced by a man right…

Whether they’re enthralled by it, appalled by it, or concerned by it, I think it’s safe to say that everyone has an opinion on the Amanda Byne’s meltdown. The alleged marijuana bong-tossing incident, setting fire in a stranger’s driveway, getting into multiple car accidents (hit and runs), wearing ratty wigs, humorously denying her odd behavior, calling each and every critic of hers “ugly” via her Twitter feed, and getting evicted from her apartment, an endless amount of people are weighing in on it, attempting to get to the bottom of the child-star’s meltdown. Is it schizophrenia? Or is she simply a helpless victim of what stardom and countless amounts of money can do to you? I believe that she has unfortunately ruined her image. She is displaying all the characteristics of the psychological disorder Schizophrenia. She has totally changed as a person, when only three years back she was starring in major films, and was an actress to look up to. Much like Lindsay Lohan's infamous meltdown, Amanda Bynes has proven to herself, and the public, that she has gone crazy, with obvious evidence through her actions.…

Many of the modern television shows and movies use similar themes and subject matter as “A&P.” Things like young girls trying to appear older than they are, an awkward young man coming to terms with his sexuality, and the idea of conventional masculinity are all commonly found in the media. The question of how an adolescent girl’s mind works is that one that cannot be easily answered, but attempts are often made. The character of Sammy is virtually clueless about females, and Updike makes this obvious, “You never know for sure how girl’ minds work (do you really think it’s a mind in there or just a little buzz like a bee in a glass jar?).” When this story was written the dynamic between young men and women was not as readily explored, but today it is a source of entertainment. High school dramas have taken over prime time television. However, this story is not one of drama, but rather ironic humor. The reader anticipates Sammy to act like a typical teenage boy, and mirror the actions of his coworker. Instead, he connects to them on a more emotional level, which leads him to act irrationally. Updike turns what could have been another typical teenage story into a satire of society’s expectations on sexuality and gender.…

The people that I will be analyzing are Jen the Pen, Raqi Thunder, and Ebro. Raqi comes up with this idea to start a radio talk show on Hot 97 with Jen the Pen. So Raqi sets up a meeting for her and Jen with the program director Ebro from Hot 97. During the meeting Raqi and Jen propose the idea of a talk with two women, which had never been done before. Ebro explains to them that he is not looking for anyone at the moment, but he agreed to come to the meeting because of his love for Raqi. Ebro lets Raqi and Jen know that in order for them to get interviews and credibility they cannot flirt with the guys who come to the radio station. He also informs them that if he does not like the way the show is being conducted, then it will not happen. Raqi and Jen had an audition at Hot 97 which would determine whether their show would become permanent or not. During the audition they interviewed a rapper by the name of Vado. While Raqi was flirting, Jen was trying to stay on track by asking question that would not move in the direction of flirting because that was exactly what Ebro told them not to do. A few days later Raqi and Jen met up to discuss how their audition went and things got out of hand. Jen felt like it was “Raqi’s world” and she was just there. Raqi explains to her that she was just doing her a favor by letting her be apart of what she had been working towards for months. From there, they got into a heated argument where hurtful words were exchange and their partnership ended.…

Dating; an unavoidable element of teenage life, often something teenagers feel pressured into doing. This is no different in 10 Things I Hate About You. The film is set in a 1990's American high school, Padua Stadium High School. The use of setting by the writers of the film, Karen McCullah Lutz and Kristen Smith, are effective in expressing the obsessions 90’s teenage American’s had with labelling their relationships. In The Taming of the Shrew (created in the 1500’s), marriage is a union of relationship that the contextual society obsessed over. In 10 Things I Hate About You (released in the late 1990’s), this has been appropriated, and dating has become a form of relationship that everyone obsesses over, especially in high school. Dating is shown as a result of peer pressure, Bianca constantly states, “I’m the only girl in school that doesn’t date”. She feels pressured by her…
