Bridget Ward, Lillian Galles, Justin Marain Mr. Villavicencio English 2 14 March 2013 Traffic Laws Cars are everywhere we go; in the city, in the country, and on the roads. They endanger our lives when we drink; when we are distracted, and when we speed. This is why we should get police to enforce traffic laws more strictly. If we get police to start enforcing the laws more strictly many lives could be saved, and there would be less accidents caused by lack of police involvement. More accidents happen when people drive under the influence. Driving under the influence is a hazard because you’re intoxicated and unable to concentrate on the roads and others around you. If we had more highway patrol then more people would be caught under the influence, therefore the roads would be much safer. We need more police to help our society keep our roads safe from intoxicated drivers. Although intoxication is a big reason for accidents on the road, distracted driving is another contributor to the high accident rates. When you are participating in anything other than your driving on the road then your mind is not one hundred percent focused on the task in front of you. In many cases of distracted driving the police notice it but don’t do anything about it, cops need to start actually doing something about this situation. There is a need to find another solution to the problem because how it stands is not working. And other people will not fix it. Although our cars are made for speed, but most people have trouble controlling their speed.

Speeding is a result of the need to get somewhere in a hurry. More speed bumps at stop lights, shopping centers, and turns could keep speed down by pacing drivers and keeping a good flow to the road. As a result of more speed bumps the roads would be much safer for ourselves and others around us. In conclusion there are many factors in car accidents related to traffic laws that could easily be fixed with the help of more police and stricter traffic laws. Being under the influence, being distracted, and speeding are only a few contributors to the tragic accidents that happen every day. The police should try to enforce the laws of the road with a higher level of effort and concern for those on the road. With these new additions to the safety of the people on the roads the accident rate would decrease.
