Anxiety is one of the main reasons I disagree with Steve Dutch. Before staring a test or even during the test there are feelings of worry. Anxiety can be different in every person. Anxiety can be caused by fear of failing, the lack of preparation, and poor test history. Anxiety and depression association of America (ADAA) explains three types of symptoms physical, emotional and behavioral/cognitive symptoms. Physical symptoms are more like headaches, nauseas, excessive sweating, and rapid heartbeat. Emotional symptoms are feeling angry, disappointed and, fearful. Lastly the…
When taking a test, remember that it is just a test. Many people get intimidated by tests thinking that they are more than they really are. They are supposed to be a review of what you have already learned in your class. Having confidence in yourself and studying well can help you do well on them.…
When I’m taking a test there is always this feeling the back of my mind that I’m going to fail.…
For visual, I scored an 8. Visual aspects of learning very helpful especially pictures. When presentations need to be done such as on power points, most slides preferred would indicate some form of picture to go with the message. Not only it will catch the human eye but at the same time it can add interest to the individual, especially when the subject is not too appealing.…
In the world, there is a constant battle between good and evil. It is a choice that all men and women have to make at some point in life. This is demonstrated in “That Hideous Strength,” as the main characters, Mark and Jane, are in a state of dissatisfaction and must simultaneously make a decision. Jane is displayed as choosing the good side. However, the choice was not always easy and sometimes frightening. As truth of the world was revealed to her, she had to learn to trust the gift she had been given and use it to draw closer to the good. At the same time, Mark chooses a different path. As he chooses evil, he falls victim and swiftly reaches a desperate point of no escape. Mark may not have realized it at first, but it did not take long…
There is a relationship between task performance and arousal; it is called Yerkes-Dodson Law (teigen, 1994; Yerkes& Dodson, 1908). It prefers to the difficulty level of the task, easy task demand a high- moderate of arousal and a difficult task demand low level of arousal. To maintain these level of arousal, the person will need to find ways in reducing tension or creating away to make tension, for example a test takers anxiety was high before taking a test the next day in class, could study with a student who has score in that class, to maybe show them an easier way to understand the material.…
I have been around baseball since the day I was born. My godmother wore a New York Yankees jacket to the hospital in hopes of inspiring me to be a player. As early as I can remember I was hitting baseballs with my dad on the drive.…
Grit can be defined as the perseverance of and passion for long term goals with two main factors to be considered: consistency of interests and perseverance of effort. (Duckworth, Peterson, Matthews and Kelly., 2007) In our study we are examining psychological grit and how grit relates to personality, through examining neuroticism, conscientiousness and extroversion, also how grit relates to academic intelligence through vocabulary and problem solving tests. Duckworth et al. (2007) mention the results of (Gottfredson, 1997; Hartigan and Wigdor, 1989), that intelligence, or IQ is the best predictor for achievement. Academic achievement in particular is very strongly correlated with a high IQ, shown in College and school grade point averages.…
Math exams terrify me. My palms get sweaty, I breathe too fast, and often I can’t even make my eyes focus on the paper. It’s worse if I look around, because I’d see everybody else working, and know that I’m the only one who can’t do it.…
I was scared shook the day of my test. I tried being positive, but I felt in my heart that I was not going to pass. Besides, I did not spend any time practicing for the hardest part of the test, parallel parking. I couldn’t sleep the night before as I turned restless on my bed. I woke up as early as 6 am, maintaining my thoughts on the test I was going to take. I was already skipping school for the test, but I was not focused on school or how lucky I was at that point.…
The human virtue and associated character strengths that I chose as important to me is Humanity. The reason why I chose this one is because I feel that love and kindness are the center point for other virtues. Imagine the way I look at it, as humanity being the center of virtues and leading to other virtues and character strengths. Love is one of the most important things in this world and kindness is rare but important. One very well-known person who often demonstrated acts of kindness and love is Mother Theresa. Many people have heard of her and are aware of her kindness. Some people have even idolized her because of her well-known status as a so-called “do-gooder.”…
On the test, you are only allowed to answer five questions incorrectly. For the first try, I answered six incorrectly. I knew that it was necessary to be careful and do my very best. I answered the first question slowly. I also answered it wrong. My confidence immediately plummeted. I told myself to breathe, take my time, and try again.…
We all at one point have studies hard for a test and then seemed to “forget” what we studied and our anxiety level spikes. “Whether we are prepared or not we all face the recollection of having the fear to fail, lack of preparation, and a history of failed past tests” (ADAA, 2015). When test anxiety strikes we seem to hit all of the physical, emotional, and behavioral stages of how tests affect us. Heart racing, light headed, crying, upset, angry, and overthinking are just a few of what we feel during a test. Second guessing yourself is a difficult situation when you walked in the test over prepared and then end up making the wrong decision of the easiest question on the paper. We all want and try to manage our anxiety by being prepared and taking good note to self test yourself in advance for a test. To decrease your anxiety you have to stay focused and get good sleep and eat right. Have personal relaxation techniques to stay focused of what is on the test and stay positive about the information you are taking in and be…
The author begins her argument with a real life example of a nine year old boy whose mother is an alcoholic and a father who is gone. She then describes the boy's attitude and perseverance and how he ends up succeeding even through his traumatic childhood, thus achieving resilience. With this example she goes deeper into how children who experienced stress and difficult situations would be able to be resilient. After research, she informs the reader that there are two answers to resilient people one of which relies on luck and the other of the individual and their personality and experience. From this point of her argument, the author focus on these two groups. With her statement that some element of a resilient person relies on luck, she uses…
The concept for the experiment came from knowing some of our friends that can’t test well because of stress. Stress can do many things to a person including making them fail a test. We wanted to know if doing anything along the lines of playing a simple game to chewing a piece of gum before a test could help a person test better. If it could it could be very helpful around A.I.M.S time. This could also determine sometimes if you pass or fail a class. If you have that anxiety attack right before a test your mind can sometimes go straight to “panic mode” and you could easily flunk that test. If we could find a way to make that anxiety, panic, or stress go away it could help a lot of kids in schools. That is why my partner and I have come up with this Science Fair Project.…
