Memories In The Outsiders
My essay is about reliving memories through pictures. I looked back at my summer memories and it made me remember all the good times I had and what I had to look forward to. When I am in a bad mood, thinking about the good times that are possible to have makes me feel a lot better. In The Outsiders, Ponyboy felt this way when he was looking through his yearbook. He remembered the happy moments he had with his gang when he was younger, when life was simple. When I am stressed out about difficult times in my life, looking at pictures can always make me feel better. This also goes for good memories in general. The remembrance of Johnny will always cheer up the gang of Greasers and bring a smile to their faces, the same way my pictures did.

    The book The Outsiders was written by S. E. Hinton, and published in 1967. The Outsiders movie was then released in 1983 and was directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The story is about a group of 7 greasers set in the 1960’s. Basically the greasers are in constant rival with the socs, the upper class kids from the west side. Ponyboy Curtis and Johnny Cade are the youngest in the group. They go threw some very difficult times after Johnny kills a soc, then dies.     However, The Outsiders movie was very interesting, the novel portrayed the story line better in my opinion. For one the novel is more detailed such as when Johnny got jumped by Bob and three of his Soc friends, but the movie does not.     The Outsiders, directed by Francis Ford Coppola was released in 1983. Ponyboy Curtis (C. Thomas Howell) is a greaser whose parents were killed in a car accident. He and his friends: Johnny (Ralph Macchio), Dally (Matt Dillon), Two-Bit (Emilio Estevez), and Steve (Tom Cruise), and brothers, Darry (Patrick Swayze) and Soda (Rob Lowe), are always getting in fights with a gang called the Socs. One night, best friend Johnny, are attacked by Socs. The Socs almost drown Ponyboy, and Johnny, defending Ponyboy, stabs Bob (a Soc). Pony, and Johnny find a church to hide out in. A bunch of little kids are trapped inside the church which caught on fire, and Pony, Johnny, and Dally save them. Ponyboy gets out ok, Dally burns his arm, but a huge piece of wood falls on Johnny, breaking his back, and burning him badly.     After reading all of the descriptive essays I found that I liked the “Once More to the Lake “By E.B White. His essay is easily readable and his diction is simplistic. His descriptions and imagery include Whites past and present memories. The narration is first person through the eyes and voice of the author. On the other hand I feel that his theme is more elusive. This retrospection allows the reader to slip behind the wall of time and memories to watch a son and father enjoy the America dream a vacation, reflecting on childhood memories the author recalls a trip back to the place where he had spent summer vacations with his parents and siblings. This event which seemed very enjoyable challenges him to look back at his relationship with his own father now that he has returned he realizes that some things vary and other things a person cannot stop from changing he and his son stay in the same cabin near the same dock on the same lake as he had done in his childhood. Over and over again the author comments that "there has been no years gone by." I believe he felt that he had traveled back in time and though several decades had passed, everything was the same. I think the audience he is trying to appeal is parents specifically fathers. Because the story is based on his relationship with his father comparing it with his relationship now with his son. Just more personally I think this essay is also able to appeal anybody that has thought of what your parents did with their parents.…
