Mellissa Monaghan Essay
Hello, I am Mellissa Monaghan. I am graduating as a junior from Southeast Polk. I love being a part of school activities and fundraisers. I wish I could have been more involved in after school activities, because i feel like it would have been a lot of fun to get to know more people outside of school hours. Throughout highschool, I have found my passion and I have figured out who my true friends are and who will stay by my side when I need them the most. I got the most out of high school by challenging myself to take complicated classes and if I knew that those classes were not for me, then I would drop them. My counselor, Mrs. Daugherty, has been very supportive of my decisions and has helped me get to where I am now. She has given me tons …show more content…
Another thing I learned is that you should be in touch with your counselor as much as possible because they will be there for you throughout all four years of high school. The counselors might end up being the ones you can trust the most or count on if you need help with something or if you need someone to talk to. My proudest accomplishments would be that I will graduate as a junior. Also, I am proud of how far I have come in high school because I have been able to challenge myself more in school and out of school. Some of my biggest regrets would be that I wish I would have gotten more involved with activities because I would have more than likely made a few new friends and had more fun in school. College and career planning classes are important because the teachers will help you get ready for what will be in store after high school. When selecting courses for the semester or the year, it is best to take courses that will reflect back onto what you have planned for college or later in life. Managing your grade point average (GPA) will be helpful throughout high school because it will help you get opportunities to opt out of extra finals if you have a 3.5 or higher. If you do not track your credits, you might not get the required credits needed in order to

There are many accomplishments in my life of which I am proud, however there are two for which I am especially proud. These accomplishments make me proud because they are goals that I was able to set and accomplish for myself. These are successes that not everyone can say that they have achieved.…

High school students do not realize that when they get to college these classes force students, or encourage them, to learn responsibilities. You are now able to make all your own decisions: what you study and when you study it. Unlike high school, you are treated like an adult in post secondary classes. You are given responsibilities and tasks to complete on your own time after your professor has left the lecture. This allows you to shape your degree in anyway you want. Perhaps specializing in biology and chemistry to become a Physician, or majoring in accounting to become a Chartered Accountant. Whichever path you choose will be based on the decisions you make along the…

Some people say that we don’t need “hobby classes” and adding elective classes is not a good use of the schools money. If we have more classes that students enjoy attendance may go up, grades may go up and overall enjoyment of school for students may increase. We have put money into the art and athletic departments so we should improve the other departments in the school. Others might say that some of these classes won’t prepare us for college. I would disagree. These classes might not prepare you for the academic side of college but it will help with everyday tasks. A money management class might teach you about student loans and how to balance a checkbook. Moving out and living without your family can be a big change and some of these classes could make these switch a little…

Last year had to by far be the toughest year for me in high school. I grew away from many people that I considered some of my closest friends. I also suffered academically because I began to spend less time doing work and being focused on less important things. I got caught up in unnecessary drama, went on my first college visits, and met new people in the matter of one year. Not only did I grow as a person, I grew as an athlete, I grew as a sibling, and I grew as a young woman. My junior year allowed me to develop my expectations for myself in life and my expectations for the people who I choose to surround myself with. This was the year that I decided who I would want to become in the future.…
