The essay “The Mesmerizer” by Mark Twain is a story about a young yet mature boy who encounters an opportunity to get noticed. This all happens when Simmons, the hypnotist, comes to his town named Hannibal. At first the mesmerizer seems just like your “average” hypnotist, enchanting and intriguing. But the real question is ,” Is this really an act?”. When Twain takes the stage he instantly begins playing along and then realizes that Simmons is a fraud just like himself. The townspeople have no clue though and still remain fascinated with every stunt, skit, and performance on the stage. The truth is that they are all just actors in the story and in reality. The mesmerizer is just doing his job moving from town to town earning his living. At the same time Twain is a con receiving attention from the crowd. And last but certainly not the least; the audience is the townspeople, who all know that it is quite a performance indeed!…

The letter from the Memphite official Apy in Akhenaten’s fifth year, drafted just about five weeks before the date on the early boundary stelae at Amarna (see Chapter 6), signaled that the temple of Ptah and those of other deities in the capital were functioning normally. Nine months earlier (in year 4), a graffito was etched in the quarry area of Wadi Hammamat by an expedition that had been dispatched by Akhenaten to obtain bḫn, graywacke5 stone for a statue of the king. The leader of the expedition was none other than the high priest of Amun, named May.6 Minimally, this reference suggests that while the Aten temples in Karnak were functioning, the adjacent Amun temple was still operational with the high priest who had been appointed by Amenhotep…

They play was quite an interesting play with its use of comedy and tragedy. The actors did a terrific job on portraying the characters. The set was small so it was much easier to see their reactions. The introduction to the play was pretty unique with those people in tight pants and glitter all over everybody in the lobby. They never broke character no matter what went on in the lobby. Later they used as prompts on stage which was pretty interesting because at times I was so into the play I forgot they were there acting as a car or a door.…

“Characterized by integrity: guided by a high sense of honor and duty,” the aforementioned quote is the definition of honorable, according to the Merriam-Webster online dictionary. This definition alludes to the idea that like integrity, honorability must also be earned. In the novel Mephisto, written by Klaus Mann, the main character, Hendrik Hofgen struggles with his desire to stay true to his moral values and hold on to his integrity, while also trying to fulfill his dreams. At first glance, Hofgen seems to be the villain, and seems to be the furthest thing from honorable, but the continued exposure to his character provides the reader with the opportunity for further examination.…

The treaty of paris of 1783 ended the war of independence and granted the thirteen colonies political freedom. A preliminary treaty between Great Britain and the United States had been signed in 1782, but the final agreement was not signed until September 3, 1783. Peace negotiations began in Paris, France, in April 1782. The U.S. delegation included benjamin franklin, john adams, john jay, and Henry Laurens, while the British were represented by Richard Oswald and Henry Strachey. The negotiators concluded the preliminary treaty on November 30, 1782, but the agreement was not effective until Great Britain concluded treaties with France and Spain concerning foreign colonies. In the final agreement, the British recognized the independence of the United States. The treaty established generous boundaries for the United States; U.S. territory now extended from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mississippi River in the west, and from the Great Lakes and Canada in the north to the 31st parallel in the south. The U.S. fishing fleet was guaranteed access to the fisheries off the coast of Newfoundland with their plentiful supply of cod.…
