On Course

1. Getting on course to your success.
In chapter one they ask, what is success? I believe success is keeping up good grades, living a happy life by maintaining a social life. Success is to be looked up to by many. Last but not least I believe success is to leave the world knowing you’ve made somebody’s life easier by your existence. They asked that question to many undergraduate students and some of the answers they gave were “Success is to get all A’s and B’s, being the first person in my family to earn a college degree, having a great social life…etc.” Those were only a few answers. The interviewers noticed that each response emphasized outer success. Then they interviewed actual college graduates, and there answers were a little different. They said “success is to focus on learning instead of just getting good grades, discover my personal values, learn more about the world I live In and more about myself, etc.” Those answers were similar but the college graduates focused on inner success. In this chapter I learned a lot. I learned about values I need to succeed in life. I need to believe in myself by developing self-acceptance. High self-esteem is the fuel that can propel us into the cycle of success. If I have high self-esteem, I will most likely chose options that will move me toward success. If you don’t believe in yourself most likely no body will.

2. Accepting Personal Responsibility In this chapter I learned the value of responsibility and its beneficial outcomes. When people keep doing what they’ve been doing even when it doesn’t work, they are acting as victims. When people change their beliefs and behaviors to create the best result they can, they are acting as creators. I learned when you accept your personal responsibility; you believe that you can create everything you possibly want. A great thing about our future is that we get to create it; we create it with our choices. The

I’ve grown up in a time where cannabis has been greatly talked about in positive ways. Some of my friends have used it before and they've told me that it was very beneficial to their mental and physical health. Many people benefit from using this drug and some just enjoy doing it. I feel that people lose some of their personal freedom when they’re not allowed to use cannabis. Im sure that you, a government official, would be concerned about the people's view on marijuana.…

Young people are more eager to try new things that will give them a feeling unlike one they have experienced before, in other words a high. If smoked it has a different effect on the body than it does if you use it for medical reasons. Cannabis oil which is concentrated cannabis extracts is becoming a popular medicine for patients with cancer, glaucoma, and seizures. ¨Evidence has shown cannabinoids to be capable, under some conditions, of inhibiting the development of cancer cells¨ (Hazekamp). Cannabis oil isn't smoked, it is in an oil form which does not cause lung problems in the future. People taking cannabis oil are not using it for the high, they use it to “cure” or to help slow down their diagnosis. Taking cannabis oil doesn’t necessarily help the diagnosis either but in some situations it helps to gain your appetite back, it helps the person to sleep, and it also helps prevent being nauseous (Hazekamp). Although it is illegal in many states which makes it hard to give this treatment to many people. If given to children in states where it is illegal the parents can get in trouble and even have their children taken away. Many states look at the negative effects it has on the body by smoking it. However they haven’t looked at the positive effects it has on the body through the cannabis oil (Hazekamp).…

Marijuana has become a big issue in today’s healthcare settings because even though healthcare professionals find it right that their patients use medical marijuana not all people find it appropriate. In my position I am for the fact that it’s much more effective to use medical marijuana than any prescription that is prescribed to a patient. Then with the whole point of medical marijuana being used by many patients there is laws that apply to the situation which at times I find it not fair under some circumstances. Ethics and professional codes of conduct impact medical marijuana because at times the two morals do not go with each other. As we all should also know is that a patients’ rights to privacy and confidentiality is very important in healthcare and if not met can include consequences for the medical professional that did not meet the standards.…

“Traditional” cancer treatments are on the rise and are in abundance. The most common treatments are surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. A few of the lesser known are targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and stem cell transplant. Surgery is not only a treatment, but it can be used to diagnose and prevent most cancers. There are multiple surgical techniques, such as, full removal, partial removal, and some techniques are to treat a specific problem caused by the cancer itself. Chemotherapy is the use of strong medications, which have been proven, to kill or damage cancer cells, to treat cancer. There are over one hundred medications that can be used in different combinations. Radiation therapy is the utilization, of high-energy waves, to damage or destroy the cancer cells(Mayo,”Cancer”). Sadly, all of these treatments have horrible side effects, which can start, as soon as the first treatment, and also have terrible consequences, many years after the initial treatment, also known as late effects. When referring to the side effects, of the many surgical procedures, most of common problems can happen during, and/or after the surgery. The side effects during the surgery range from, hemorrhaging, or bleeding out in the middle of surgery, to the possible damage of other organs, and also the side effects after, could be as serious as a deadly infection. Chemotherapy’s side effects are what the average person thinks of when thinking of a cancer patient losing their hair, horrible spells of nausea, including vomiting and debilitating fatigue. Managing these side effects include more medications, with more side effects to emanate. Late effects of chemotherapy include anywhere, from heart problems to developing other types of cancer. When using radiation therapy, the side effects are close to chemotherapy, with the similar possibility of developing another cancer, due to the treatment (Mayo,"Cancer Survivors: Late Effects of Cancer…

America has been historically known throughout the world as the land of the free - a place where one can live their life as they please, without the chains of oppression to tie them down or a heavy-handed government to rule their life. The Pilgrims left their home country of England to flee religious persecution, so it was only natural that they would want the country they laid the foundation for to be a land of freedom, where people of all religions and lifestyles were welcome. However, America has strayed from their wishes and from the guidance of the Constitution, and has become a place where the government interferes in the lives of the people far more than is wise or necessary. The criminalization of marijuana is one example of such arbitrary, illogical, and…

Marijuana is a very well known and controversial issue in society today. Although many claims have been made about cannabis in recent history, the truth is slowly starting to resurface. Marijuana could not only benefit our economy and industry but as well as our medical field. Unfortunately, these truths are under criticism due to the stereotypical view of what people view as the typical “pot smoker.” This biased perception of a lazy and unmotivated America is the result of over seventy years of propaganda and lies spread by private interests who needed cannabis illegal for their own personal gains. We must look at cannabis with an unbiased view with only the intention of bettering our country in mind.…
