Medical Marijuana Case Summary

The patient is a 40 year old female who presented to the ED acutely psychotic. The patient denies suicidal ideation, homicidal ideation, and symptoms of psychosis. Per-documentation the patient reports was stating very inappropriate statements to hospital staff. Patient reports no depression symptoms.

During the time of the assessment the patient was found calm and 4X oriented. The patient presents with tangential thought process. The patient state, "Tennessee is a rain forest, New York is going under the sea." Further stating, "Whitney Houston hit that high note, I need surgery, do it for me medically." The patient reports that she is having concerns with ex-husband and Native American boyfriend. In addition, the patient reports she has a lawyer that she has been talking to about Miley Cyrus.
Patient, states, "My daughter lives in my dreams, so I can feel her in my heart." The patient reports marijuana use 3-4 days ago when asked about substance abuse use of marijuana. According to the patient's most recently drug screen the patient tested positive for marijuana. The patient presents with pressured speech when responding to questions asked during the assessment.

Due to an increase in bizarre behavior, poor insight, poor judgement, and poor impulse control, confusion, patient does meet criteria for IVC and inpatient hospitalization. TACT consulted with Dr. Haviland and it was recommended to refer for inpatient hospitalization for safety and stabilization. TACT assisted the ED doctor in completing IVC paperwork.
