Medical Illustrator Personal Statement
I am a professional graphic designer & illustrator coming back to school with two years of developed organization and time management skills for projects.

I’m dedicated to making positive contributions and offer professional visual enhancements for communicating the more complicated aspects of our medical research.

By my education in molecular biology and in-lab experience I hope to advance my dream of becoming a scientific researcher and medical illustrator.

I have plenty of worldly experience traveling alone while socially networking within countries like Japan and China as well as abroad in the united states.

I have made and retain many working relationships in my field and can work within a team better than the average undergraduate.

"Make a difference today for someone who is fighting for their tomorrow"-Jim Kelly. Growing up residing in a small, under populated rural area I noticed how my community lacked access to health facilities and providers. Noting that this was a necessity to have, yet so scarce, I decided that being a health care provider was the career for me. I grew up always surrounded by the health care setting; my mother was a Lab Technician who worked with several Physician Assistants. I was often in her office during after school hours of my elementary/middle school years.…

This demonstrates my commitment and capability to cope with challenging situations and be an effective team member. A hospital placement was an invaluable experience as I witnessed medical synchronisation by shadowing medics and how they form the backbone of science. My core subjects inspired me to do an EPQ on 'Can engineering help with the early diagnosis of dementia?'. My EPQ draws on many aspects, such as how advances in medical imagery can help diagnose Alzheimer's disease earlier. Being a future ambassador of STEM and taking part in organisations like the 'Stemmettes' and 'WISE' has shown me that University will give me the tools to succeed in the biomedical industry. Through workshops I participated and had created 3D simulations and built artificial organs using technology and understood the necessity of using mathematical models to develop drugs. Being involved in the 'BP Day' allowed me to demonstrate practical and creative skills which in turn led me to win the title of 'Modern muse challenge for most original innovated designer for an app'. I vividly remember being in sixth grade extremely jealous of the eighth graders being able to dissect a pig while we as sixth graders got a worm. The anxiousness killed me knowing I had to wait two years but it was well worth the wait. I was always on time because I knew I wanted to get first pick on every set of instruments and specimen. I always lead our group and was always the first to make incisions while everyone else was grossed out. That’s when I realized I discovered something I truly enjoyed.…

“Curiosity is one of the permanent and certain characteristics of a vigorous intellect.” The curiosity that Samuel Johnson refers to in this quote is something that I feel itching at me every day, especially since I have begun my journey in the world of medicine. Through my experiences, I have realized that Internal medicine is the field in which I will be able to use my compassion towards others, not only to help them, but also to constantly nourish my own curiosity for medical knowledge.…

I am interested in pursing the major I chose above because I have developed a passion for medicine through my own health obstacles. I suffer from Chronic Migraines, which has caused me to spend a great deal of my life in doctor's offices. Positive experiences with my doctors lead to me idolizing them as a young child; so much so that I memorized the every bone in the body at the age of five. This passion stayed alive and well as I grew older, however my admiration began to transition from the doctors themselves to the subject. This all stemmed from my own health; I wanted to know exactly what was happening with my body and why. Now, I want to dedicate my life to the subject and possibly be the doctor that inspires someone to discover their…

Family members would often call me with questions regarding their health. During my Internship as part of medical school, a 50-year-old presented to the clinic with numbness of his legs. His initial lab works showed increased blood sugar levels and increased hba1c levels and after doing an EKG I was able to confirm that he had suffered from a silent Myocardial Infarction. He was later started on appropriate treatment and when I met him later for outpatient follow-up, the whole family reported to be indebted to me for diagnosing a hidden problem. This really overwhelmed me and made me realize the kind of satisfaction I was able to provide a family by being an Internist. This also proved me that I had the thought process to untie the complexity involved and come up with a broad differential diagnosis. Taking up challenges is one of my attributes and I feel an Internist faces unique Intellectual challenges on a daily basis. From my experience, I can say that even a small change in someone’s life will make a difference, like when I was talking to my Aunt who is a diabetic, was complaining of muscle pain and after diagnosing her condition as medication-induced, I witnessed how peaceful she was after eliminating the…

It almost feels like a chapter of Sherlock Holmes, where I can not only solve diagnostic mysteries but can also master the art of attention to detail and enlighten my patients with valuable knowledge. It amazes me how learning opportunities in Internal Medicine are endless, and with each rising day I might witness a new diagnostic challenge. My curiosity and characteristic vigilance have landed me with opportunities such as Vice-President of Global Affairs in Interact Club, Student Director of residence activities at my college, and researching and presenting various topics throughout my medical school career. These experiences allowed me to hone my leadership skills, ability to perform meticulous research, and planning while being keenly observant. I believe that Internal Medicine offers an intellectual platform where I can further master these traits and see a diverse range of patients, encompassing all the organ systems.…
