Medical Biology Personal Statement
To whom it may consider,

I came into college not really knowing exactly what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, but I knew I wanted to do something in the medical field. My mom being a Physical Therapist, and me always having a special interest in science classes the idea was always there when I thought about my future. I am currently undecided, but have been taking classes on the Medical Biology track and very interested in minoring in something else on the side. But although I am on the Medical Biology track, as I said earlier I am very un-sure as to what specifically I want to do. Medical school being the most prestige opportunity in the medical area I decided to shoot for that and hopefully continue through with it, or find something

Cancer has always been a very interesting thing to me, and it has always upset me and made curious has to how we have not found a cure for it, especially with all the technology and knowledge we have today. Early February of last year my father passed away from Glioblastoma Multiform which is a type of brain cancer that he had fought for nearly 4 years. This was a very hard time for me and my family, but was also a very large motivation push for to continue my hopes of getting into Medical School. It also was the motivation for me to research and study cancer and everything involved with it. I would like to either head my own research project or at least be apart of a research project here at USD that focuses on the study of cancer and learn more about something that is so personal and interesting to me. This is a very tough goal because there is already so much research being done on cancer, and so much already being discovered everyday. But I think that with the right people, the right idea, and the right connections here at USD, it is still something that I look forward to and hope to have the opportunity to apart of at some point of my time

I can still vividly recall the eleven-year-old me fawning over the likes of Lawrence Krauss and Neil Degrasse Tyson. I was completely immersed in everything and anything pertaining to the vast universe beyond our seemingly insignificant world. I thought I had it all figured out. I would devote my life to being an astrophysicist and eventually earn my PhD. I would relish in the pink lettering on my wall that said “Dr. Mia”, but as I approach my late teens, my mind has been bombarded with what-ifs and buts. Irrespective of my change of heart, I still have an intense passion for math and science since it is how we explain the world around us, and that is why I have settled on biomedical engineering.…

After high school in not sure what exactly what I want to do, but I have two colleges in mind. My first choice is Berks Technical Institute, where I would study to be a medical assistant. One reason why I’m debating on that profession is because not everyone is looking for a medical assistant, and I don’t want to study something if its going to turn out pointless. My plan B will be, the arts institute of Philadelphia, where I would like to study culinary arts, I have a serious passion for cooking and baking. My plan C will be getting a job with my uncle if any of this does not go as planned. Medical assistants work with physicians, mainly in outpatient care facilities, such as medical offices and clinics. If I were to go into that field my day would consist of Answering telephones, Updating and filing patient medical records, Coding and filling out insurance forms, Scheduling appointments and Arranging for hospital admissions and laboratory services. Starting pay right out of college for medical assistants would be $10.14 an hour. Additional education is not mandatory but would also be nice to move up to a registered nurse, which they get paid a better wage. Some obstacles I would have to over come to pursue my dreams into going into this profession would be, being more social with others, I will over come these obstacles slowly because I am a very closed and shy person. Also, if my plans do not work of for college as I stated earlier, I will work in the construction field as a back up plan. I came to this decision when I took a course back in the 10th grade for home decorating, and I loved it although I had to drop it off my schedule because I was short a couple of credits. My day would start off by making a couple of phone calls to find out when shipments are coming in such as power tools, drywall…

My journey started 16 years ago right after I graduated high school. In the beginning, I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, but I knew I was fascinated with science and medicine. In the first part of my journey I attended Community College of Philadelphia. When I got to college I had no idea which way to go or what steps to even begin to take. So I took a few classes here and there while I contemplated a career goal. After taking an anatomy and physiology course I knew that I wanted to become a physician. When I first began Community College of Philadelphia I was immature and didn’t see the importance of doing my best. My grades weren’t too great but when I realized my goal, I knew I had to buckle down and really show the determination and commitment I was capable of. On the second part of my journey, I was lead to Temple University. I knew that this was the time to stay focused and make sure I did the best I could do and more. Temple was my second chance. While attending Temple I learned many valuable life lessons. Not only did temple help shape me into a mature and well-rounded woman but it also helped me achieve the tools required to have a successful future.…

Through my experiences, I have realized that Internal medicine is the field in which I will be able to use my compassion towards others, not only to help them, but also to constantly nourish my own curiosity for medical knowledge.…

My motivation to succeed in life and college starts with my ambition to want more than just a job that pays well, but a career that I love doing. I was in the navy for four years active and I loved it, but I didn’t feel fulfilled in life. Something was missing. So I made the decision to become a reservist and finish my degree and pursue my dream of becoming a Register Nurse. That dream is put on hold for now only because the school that I attended told me that even if I had all the necessary points needed, I still might not be accepted into the nursing program. I had a tough decision to make. Do I stay in this school and keep wasting time or do I go to another school and pursue something else in the medical field? That is when I decided to come to California College San Diego and pursue a degree in Medical Specialties. When I am done with this program, I would have two careers that I would enjoy doing. I would be certified in multiple areas such as: medical assistant, home health aide, pharmacy technician, nursing assistant, and medical billing and coding. Although I want to be a Register Nurse, I will use this as a stepping stool to reach my goal and dream.…

I had worked hard in school because of this desire to become a physician. But at a time I also became discouraged and worried about my future outlook. During my second semester of freshman year and going into sophomore year in college, I was still trying to figure out how to study properly and the troubles in physics and organic chemistry became a nightmare. On top of courses being difficult, I was also involved in a dance team, an active runner, and employed as an undergraduate peer advisor and TA, which became hard to balance. Sacrifices were made, which I came to realize is what a physician's job entails. I had never faced more of a…

Thanks to the prompt medical care he received at the hands of skilled physicians, he survived. My father’s ongoing journey has been an inspiration for my career as well as my research interests.…

I am very much fond of the vastness of the Biological Universe, its uniqueness and its awe-inspiring functions within all living organisms. I was very interested in animals and its hybridization methodology that in order to have a deep understanding of this relevant animal science I was also attracted towards the detailed study of the cell and especially genetics. Whilst studying this subject I became interested in animals and was fascinated by different hybrid animals like the famous ''Liger''. Due to this reason I am willing to apply for Biomedical and Animal sciences. As both will help me understand the complex functions of animal cells at a micro level which will benefit me in the future.…

As a child growing up I think I always wanted to work in the medical field, seeing my mother as a LPN. I also have always had a natural interest in the medical field because I like to watch a lot of ER and hospital shows. At first I didn’t really know what health career I wanted to pursue. I just knew that I liked being in the healthcare class and learning about the different health science careers and what they do. I think a medical office administration assistant would be a very good career for me because I am very helpful and can always be counted on when people need me. This is not my only career choice, it’s just the first I want to pursue. One year after graduation I will hopefully have my medical assisting certificate or at least be working on getting it. Around my five year mark I want to try to get a degree from a nursing school and become licensed as a registered nurse. After that I will try to specialize in pediatrics, so I can be a pediatric nurse. In ten years, I want to get my nurse practitioners license, so that I could work directly with a pediatrician.…
