Media Accountable For Negative Effects On Children Essay
Is the media accountable for the negative effects on children?
The media should be held accountable for the negative effect on children. With their music, television, and unhealthy fashion statement; children learn bad behaviors. There are positive effects from the media, but the negative ones are my real concern. Children copy everything they see or hear someone say when they are little kids between the age group one to five. Children observing and listening to the bad behavior from the media can turn children into bad adolescents when they grow older. Children are more prone to grow up fighting, and being sexually active because of what they watch, hear, and react to in their lives and the media.
Children are prone to negative behavior because of what they listen to at a young age and what they see such as television, movies, music videos, and reality. Some artists decide that to be the best you have to sing about the negative acts and behaviors that are performed in the world. Artists fail to realize that the music and videos they make has a negative effect on children. Music videos are one of the top ten ways to portray sexual

If they watch a show or listen to at least one song they will want to see more or hear more. The more they watch and listen to negative behavior or language the more they become interested in it. The media is becoming worst for children and teens. If more children and teens watch uncensored programs, they will want to act out because of what they see other people or cartoons do. I feel that the media is accountable for the language and gossip about other people in this world. If they tone down some of the entertainment they put in their music, shows, and videos; no one would hold them accountable for it. Now my final thought is: If our community continues to grow in a negative direction. Who then will be accountable for all the negative behavior that is going on in this

Mike Males, in “Stop Blaming Kids and TV,” inscribes government officials have blamed today’s media on the acts of kids and young adults, how the impact of violence, drug, and alcohol abuse can ruin children’s lives. Parents need to notice that their own behavior has a major influence on their children’s lives and futures. He makes strong statements that the media does not influence adolescent violence, drug, and alcohol abuse. He supports his opinion with many examples including the comparison of television violence and real actual violence. Males notes, “Kids will witness at least 200,000 acts of television violence by the time her or she are completing high school.”…

The media’s have both positive and negative in regards to teaching sexually responsibility. They are increasing awareness to STD’s and HIV, but due to increased stimuli to sexuality the more our preteens and teenagers want to engage into having sex and because of this we are experiencing higher rates of teen pregnancy (babies having babies) because of television shows that show teens having sexual relations, getting pregnant, and making it look nonchalant as far as consequences goes.…

In my opinion media shouldn't be held responsible for corrupting the society because there are many other factors which contribute to the corruption of younger kids in a society. Television, Music and video games are held responsible all the time when something goes wrong in a society regarding the kids. Factors like personal issues and lack of understanding and also the miscommunications between kids and the adults are other reasons which add up to the reasons for the "desensitization" of younger audiences. Regardless, media does have a negative impact on the society, especially the children`s, due to the popularity of media that is presented and promoted in our everyday life's. It allows younger viewers to believe that the media is more genuine than actual reality, therefore creating aggressiveness and attitude changes in youngsters, creating major impacts on the future of the society.…

Kristen Harrison and Joanne Cantor designed a study, in 1999, to examine the effects frightening media had on children and if those effects continued into adulthood. Their study had three major goals. The first goal was to classify the types of media stimuli that contributed to the fright reactions. Their second goal was to uncover the different symptoms that the participants had within these reactions. Their final goal was to survey the developmental trend in the stimuli and the different coping strategies the participants used. For Harrison and Cantor to accomplish their first goal they first had to decide how they would categorize the media stimuli’s. They turned to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV). They…

Children are not the only people subjected to negative influence by the media. Watching television at high amounts result in “lower levels of mental ability” among all ages, and can be associated with “households lower in socioeconomic status” (Comstock, Scharrer 162). The downgrade of the media has a lasting effect on its consumers, and unless there is a rapid change in the material being produced, future generations will see nothing of the real world except what the media provides for them to…

The social influences of the visual entertainment media have been more negative than positive. For example YouTube has millions of video up where most of them depict something of negativity or something of no substance. There are so many videos of people fighting than there are of someone speaking out to promote non-violence. There are also sexually explicit videos where you see a person has millions of hits. Also movies have become so much more violent these days that young people are easily influenced by them, kids look up to famous actors/actresses. I think it is up to us as parents to make sure we monitor what our children do.…

The media has a large affect upon individuals especially children. The counterargument here is the fact that what media has lost in moral clarity it has also gained in realism. This is saying that the media may display some inappropriate ideas but some bad ideas aren’t a big deal when the overall view of it is not so bad. Then again it is just entertainment so as long as it is serving its purpose without harming others it should not matter what everybody thinks. The concession here is that I acknowledge that many people may not agree with the point that reality TV and just TV in general isn’t all that bad. They try and promote good ideas and influences. Whether the topic is sexuality, drugs, socialization, voting or violence they all have inspiration upon children. Reality TV is a strong…

In the article “Sexual Music Lyrics Harm Children” Sally’s mother Jane said “But innocent this music is not. Today's lyrics are often totally explicit and so are many of the videos. Four-letter words are abundant and sex, quite often aggressive, multi-partner or sado-masochistic, is written about in body-part detail, and often more than hinted at on film”(Marshall 2). Songs with explicit lyrics are easily available today on youtube, Itunes, SoundCloud, etc. Explicit songs are listened to regularly by not only middle school and high school students but also by primary school children in the car with their siblings and or friends. Kids and people, in general, tend to pick up on certain words or phrases very fast if heard frequently. Jane also said that her daughter was temporarily suspended due to the negative poem she wrote and posted on the internet. Jane also said when they looked further into the poem they realized that the poem was just lyrics from a song: “Sally had just copied what she sees and hears all around her; songs on the radio, music videos on TV and graphic, uncensored lyrics posted on easily accessible websites—which she can look at, without restrictions, at any time of day” (Marshall 1). This quote shows you how kids can…

The media has a huge influence on people who watch and listen to it. Technology has made it possible for someone to sit at home, turn the TV on, and see whatever they want. While this can be a good thing, it can always dumb down society. People get so caught up in what is going on in the television shows that are playing that they lose track in what is real and just made up. They start to put themselves in what they are…
