Meaning of life

According to Albert Camus “You will never be happy if you continue to search for what happiness consists of. You will never live if you are looking for the meaning of life.” People can define happiness in various ways, for ones it means achieving their set goals while for others happiness means serving for society, and finally some people interpret happiness as finding the meaning of their life. People can spend their whole time only searching for the meaning of life, and they forget or ignore the life and real time that passes by. Unfortunately, you can search for the meaning of life and still not find it, or it can come to you with age. Significant events such as surviving the airplane or car crashes or losing the important people in one’s life, force humans to reconsider their values or beliefs, and can help to find the true meaning of life. Meaning of life is something that comes with the age, wisdom or experience. It is also hard to define what the meaning of life is, for it can be easily misinterpreted with the goals or values. I do not have my own meaning of life yet, for I am young, I have not so much experience in my life, and I cannot actually define what the meaning of life is.
To begin with, I am not fully mature as a person because I am only twenty years old and my life has just started. Consequently, wanting to enjoy all the charms of my young life I try not to think about difficult topics such as meaning of life. I value my time that I have now, so I want to spend it learning and gaining an experience. The only thing I can figure out in this research on meaning of life, is that people value one thing – time. Having time we can find something or someone, develop ourselves and etc. Theoretically, we can do everything when we have time, but when we have time and do not have someone for whom we can spend it – our life becomes meaningless. Life becomes meaningful when we can spend time on objects and subjects that are important for us. As I am living

At the moment, the most popular way of thinking about the topic having meaning in life seems to be that meaning comes from ideas branching from egoism, reasons of love, or the two endoxa as explained in Susan Wolf’s book “Meaning in Life and Why It Matters.” The egoistic perspective is states that people act in pursuit of self-interest. To elaborate, within the egoistic perspective there is the descriptive thesis (that people seek their own goods) and the normative thesis (that people are only rational in that they seek to maximize their own welfare). This relates to the impersonal perspective, which is similar to…

My meaning in life is my intention in life. I often wondered about the meaning of my life more than anything else, from my earliest childhood memories. As children, we do not fully understand what our aim is however, we cognize that our being alive alone gives us meaning. Different aspects of my life became an adventure when I became a young adult exploring. Was not until I was of age where responsibility was mine alone that I began to put meaning, and purpose together. Nothing tends to resonate until such a time in one 's life.…

When someone looks at life they should be looking at it with meaning. A life with no meaning is about as sad as something can be. A person going through life without seeing a purpose is like a stagnate puddle of water evaporating slowly through life. When finding meaning in life it is possible to find a false sense of happiness. People…

When Frankl describes meaning to life he focuses on the present moment and living more in the now. As someone that suffers from high levels of anxiety I personally appreciated his take on meaning. Frankl gave me a whole new perspective when talking about finding meaning in life. Before reading Man’s Search for Meaning, I always pondered the concept of meaning to life and correlated meaning with a spiritual connection or a big ideal (i.e, life after death, predestination). Frankl breaks meaning down into finding meaning in the given moment. Instead of thinking about meaning to life in a futuristic sense, I know think of meaning to life in the present.…

The meaning of life is different to everyone. In the book “First they killed my father“ there are many examples of what Loung considered the meaning of life. She suggests that the meaning of life is to have a full loving family to count on. She shows this by being sentimental over her mother's belongings, the way she admires Pa (her father), the thought she put into how her father was killed, the grief she felt when she realized Geak and her mother were killed, when she was holding back tears when she thought about how Ma, Pa, Keav, and Geak could never make it to America. “Chou and I come home to find Kim in the corner of the hut watching the mother go through our things. I climb the steps and sit by him, holding in my anger” (Ung 133). Her…

In Tuesdays with Morrie, Morrie teaches his student, Mitch, the meaning of life. He teaches him this based upon his own experiences. In the reading, Mitch recalls Morrie telling him, “So many people walk around with a meaningless life. … This is because they’re chasing the wrong things. The way you get meaning into your life is to devote yourself to loving others, devote yourself to your community around you, and devote yourself to creating something that gives you purpose and meaning” (Morrie 43). Overall, in my opinion, the big idea that Morrie is trying to teach Mitch is that the meaning of life is simply to be happy. And to do this one must live a life with love, family, and forgiveness, not worry about the material things, and never fear death.…

Most people would like to think that their life has some kind of meaning or purpose. However how this meaning in life is obtained can cause some differing views. One may believe that they were born with a purpose in life and the other may believe that it is their own responsibility to give their own life meaning. While the first belief may be the preferred option, it doesn’t seem very practical. Existentialists believe that one must give meaning to their own life, which in all reality seems to be the truth. In the novels Their Eyes Were Watching God, Crime and Punishment, The Awakening, The Stranger, and Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, the existential view that the individual is responsible for giving their own life meaning is confirmed…

There are countless philosophers who devoted much of their life to solving this problem. Three of the more well know philosophers are Paley, Nietzsche and Tolstoy. Although the three claim to have discovered the meaning of life, they all have differing theories. Paley takes the stance that only a few key things need to be in place for one to have a sense meaning in life. It is simple, “private happiness is our motive, and the will of God our rule”(Stewart 55). You must, first and foremost, follow the will of God and live for him. But, in addition to that, you must also live for yourself and not change in accordance to others opinions.…
