Education has been one of the top priorities by our government. In the Article 14, Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) and Commission on Higher Education (CHED) were divided into independent groups to focus on the needs of their own respective level of education. Both departments were mandated to allocate resources for the improvement of education in all levels. Given that everything on this Article would be mandated accordingly, it will bring enormous effect on the level of education that Filipino could get. The allocated budgets to the education sectors are huge enough to compensate the needs across public and private education institutions. The policy in the circulation of the finances also protects the education sectors from unnecessary and illicit spending. Additionally, TESDA has been initiated to develop skilled workers. This initiative could greatly help Filipinos in achieving technical skills. The goal of this Article is to ensure that quality education will be available to Filipinos from all walks of life in four corners of our country.…

Cornelio, Mrs. Suyo says that K-12 was implemented to uplift the quality of education especially among our Filipino learning. She also agrees that K-12 is a good thing. To her, K-12’s main goal or focus is “to provide or equip our learners with lifelong learning skills and to produce learners who will become globally competitive and they will be able to survive in the cycle called life”. She thinks that K-12, although not immediately, will solve the unemployment problem. Asked about K-12’s effects on the parents, teachers, and students she says “The effect is varied depending on the person. Parents, somewhat negative as they were not given clear information on K-12. Teachers, they have a clear understanding of K-12 since they were trained on what K-12 education is about. Students, they find it strange, but eventually, they will be able to understand that it is for their own good”. She believes it is worth it as students are given enough time to think of their career while being equipped with skills necessary to aid that choice. She knows that the DepEd officials are prepared to proceed with K-12 but also stresses out the fact that none of them know what the current state is in the field. She is rather disappointed on some of the parents who complain about K-12 as they do not understand the beauty of K-12. Along with Mrs. Cornelio and Mrs. Mananquil, she says that there would be no financial problems on K-12 for senior high school is free in public schools and Government-assisted in private schools. She also brings a sigh of relief to professionals saying that the skills given to the K-12 senior high graduates are the ones needed in factories and farms leaving professional tasks…

Amidst the dogmas pushed through by the government of PNOY, the primer of the K-12 program is possibly the most idealistic program which it is ever happen in the education history. It aims to offer universal kindergarten education, while similarly adding two additional years of schooling at the high school level, taking the Philippines at par with international standards. Critics contend that, since resources are already spread so thin, quality, not quantity, must be the stress. Classrooms may not be enough. Teachers may be inadequate. Textbooks may not be as many as other schools have. Seats may not be sufficient. But the bottom line is that the government is not sleeping. They know what is lacking. They know what is needed. That is why they…
