Me Earl And The Dying Girl Analysis
Me, Earl, and the Dying Girl is a movie that reflects the value of friendship during tough social situations. The movie portrays several inferences and levels of the made up friendship between the main characters Greg and “the dying girl” Rachel during her struggle with cancer and the friendship between the two senior students in the same high school Greg and Earl. Both of Greg and Earl craft short films during their senior year in high school, yet they refuse to publish them or give a copy to anyone up until the part in the movie in which Greg life changes because he develops a friendship with a girl with leukemia named Rachel and the other part where Earl publicizes the films he did with Greg to Rachel. In this film, Greg faces many difficult situations because he was forced to do things that he don’t want to do. Indeed, the deal with insecurity and lack of confidence, the merge between friendship and personal interests, the realization of the value of existence, and the maturity with experiences and daily situations are …show more content…
Afterward, Greg decides to display the film to Rachel in the hospital where she is taking a treatment in and he prioritizes doing this over going to the prom. Soon after Rachel saw the movie with Greg, she passed away. This part of the movie is the major turning point in Greg’s life and the main event in the movie. As this is happening, a sense of sad emotions, a sudden realization of the value of existence and friendship, and a kind of intellectual transformation for Greg appear. During writing his reflective personal letter to the college that he plans to join, he reveals the reasons why he has failed some of his classes due to the humanitarian friendship mission he was doing to Rachel; However, he realizes during writing this letter that he should apply to a film school as Rachel suggested to him before she died instead of admitting to the

    On the first day of being a Senior at Benson High School, Greg’s mother forces him to become friends with Rachel Kushner. Rachel is one of his old friends because they dated around six years ago. However, his mother tells him that Rachel is suddenly diagnosed with Acute Myelogenous Leukemia. Thus, Greg listens to his mom and follows what she wants him to do. His main goal is to get to know her better since their break up, and help cheer her up since Greg is a humorous guy. This is a person vs person conflict, mom vs Greg. Everyday, after school, Greg always sits on the couch, and watches television. His mom comes in everyday, just to see if he has called Rachel yet. However, Greg keeps on procrastinating. But he knows that no matter what, he will have to call her anyways because he can never ‘‘fight [with his] mom [since she] is unstoppable’’ (Andrews 55). Thus, Greg finally decides to call Rachel although he really does not want to. A week passes by, his mom checks on Greg and asks if he called Rachel yet.
