These people are transcendentalist. They value only simple living and the almighty God, becoming one with nature and not following any rules. When I was a kid, one of my favorite story books was, Where The Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak. As a piece of my childhood, that simple story about Max and the “wild rumpus” meant a lot to me. So in the fall of 2009 when I saw the coming attraction for the full-length feature film, my first thought was, “I really hope they do it justice.”…

In the story Into the Wild Chris McCandless was seeking wilderness to get away from everything. He was a son of wealthy parents with a lot of drama going on around the house, he wanted to get his mind off everything that made him crazy. He was seeking adventure. Kramer's statement supported McCandless bravery of living in the wilderness. He wanted to journey to Alaska, I believe he did this to find himself. Going through many obstacles he gained a lot of experience and I truly believe it helped him figure out who he was and what he was capable of. Before dying I think he had accepted who he was.…

“The very basic core of a man’s living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences.” ( McCandless). Christopher McCandless a young man wanting to experience life to the fullest in the Alaskan wilderness without a plan. I support Cellarman's argument about McCandless is ignorant due to his lack of planning for his trip into the wilderness, but I disagree with him because I think McCandless courage nor his ideas are very inspirational.…

The story began with his college graduation and inner frustration to his broken family, then proceeds through a series of events full with mix feelings of joy, loneliness, and lost; in the end he died of starvation in the derelict bus with sorrow and hopeless in Alaskan wilderness in September 1992. This movie is not plainly about the boldness of a young adventurer or his intended isolation from the real world, but its purpose to bring out the message of courage to pursuit own happiness and achieve total freedom. Its target audience is believed to be all level of society, except the underage children due to the nudity scenes contained. In order to portray the whole story with great efficiency and accuracy, the movie director Sean Penn follows faithfully in Christopher McCandless or aka “Alexander Supertramp’s” footsteps with intensive research, and it illuminates the young man’s personality as he saw it. Different cinematography techniques, such as long shot, pace, building a scene, and monologue, had been used to create the dramatic scenes, to engage audience in the mixed feeling of the movie, and most importantly bring the whole message to life.…

Chris McCandless from Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer experienced a new idea of life from venturing off into the Stampede Trail. Growing up, Chris’ personality drove him to make decisions through his childhood and his young adult years. He knew at a young age that he had different goals than what his parents had hoped. "You had to learn to walk by yourself. There was no one around, neither family nor people whose judgment you respected. At such a time you felt the need of committing yourself to something absolute- life or truth of beauty- of being ruled by it in place of man-made rules that have been discarded" (Krakauer 103). Since he learned that he had his own goals that differed from his parents, Chris McCandless believed that he did not fit into society and that he was meant to travel in a different direction than what society believed in what a man should do. Since Chris trusted in his beliefs that he was not accepted by society, he decided to go on a journey into the wild to engage with himself spiritually, mentally, and physically. "It is hardly unusual for a young man to be drawn to a pursuit considered reckless by his elders; engaging in risky behavior is a rite of passage in our culture no less than in most others. Danger has always held a certain allure. (pg…

Into the Wild happens to be my favorite book, and also one of my favorite movies. Most people like one or the other, but I think the two complement each other because of the varied stances taken on the main character himself. In case you’re not familiar, Into the Wild is based on the true story of Chris McCandless who, after graduating with honors from Emory University in 1990, gave his entire savings of twenty-four thousand dollars to charity and set off following his dream of living off the land in the Alaskan wilderness. McCandless made it to Alaska, but died shortly after taking residence in an abandoned bus; he probably passed from eating the wrong deadly plant or possibly from starvation. The book was written by John Krakauer in 1996 and was an expansion of an article he wrote based on his fascination with Chris McCandless called “Death of an Innocent” which appeared in the January 1993 issue of Outside magazine. The movie was directed by Sean Penn and came out in 2007. Both the book and the movie tell the story of Chris McCandless aka Alexander Supertramp, and his journey hitchhiking from Georgia to Alaska on a quest for truth. Although the book and the film are similar, there are a myriad of differences as well.…

Through out the book, Chris is prompted to make many small decisions in order to determine how he will live the rest of his life. From the moment he decided to go onto the road from Virginia to the West Coast, then landing in Alaska, he made small mistakes due to ignorance to fine details. During the most part of the book, Christopher McCandless is struggling without himself knowing of it. Many people he sees and meets along the way have warned him about the dangers of traversing the wilderness, alone with very little supplies and experience. After journeying into the deep Alaskan wilderness, Chris's actions show that with ignorance to small details, suffering will soon follow.…

In this passage above it explains of how people are both drawn into nature and danger. It puts Christopher McCandless nature adventure into perspective. From my opinion I think that everyone has this sense of embracing danger in some point of their lives, Christopher McCandless just went to the extreme most don't dare to touch. His adventure to Alaska was the equivalent of most teen's rebellion against their parents in my opinion. He wanted to find himself in the world and do something that not only counted, but left is imprinted out there.…
