Gluck Summer Camp
Attending Gluck summer camp will hopefully enrich my experience as a theatre performer. I want to attend Gluck summer camp for various reasons. Firstly I want to learn more about how to perform in front of an audience. Secondly I want to learn the history and background of theater, like how it originated, and how its evolved over the last couple of centuries. Furthermore I want to enhance my improvising skills as a performer. As a fourteen year old I still want to learn. In the future I do intend to go to college for the arts. I want to be involved in my schools theater program and get involved in acting. Moreover I do hope to take an art class on designing as a career option. To do this I want to be more comfortable doing auditions. I have had many experiences with theater. I did take theater in middle school and went to various theater camps for Shakespeare. I also did scene study for Shakespeare where I learned how to read and perform it. I performed many playwrights by Shakespeare as well. In addition I have done auditions. Amateur wise I’ve auditioned for my school play. And I have auditioned for a theater company too. I am also experienced in music. I play the violin for four years at my old middle school. And I learned guitar a while back. So I am already experienced in my knowledge of music reading. I do hope you consider me for camp. Thank you. -Arsham

In sixth grade theatre became a big part of my life, without my love for reading I don’t think it would have meant so much. I’ll never forget my sixth grade theatre teacher; she opened up so many doors not only with theatre but with reading. She always said “that if you don’t know what you are reading how are you going to make it mean something on stage?” You can take that in various ways, it is what you make it. Theatre isn’t as simple as just reading from a script, most people think that it is. Before we would even start on a play, we would do a read through and would have to know the script like the back of our hand in a sense. From doing research on the author of the play to the smallest things on the list.…

She was an intern for musical theatre and dance classes for 10 years, and has also junior directed and crewed many Youth Musicals. Samm helped her find her passion for theatre (back in her Broadway Babies days), and she hopes to someday do the same. She can’t wait to see this year's TPAC campers experience the…

When you think about what you want for your future is there someone you look up to for inspiration? For me this person is Lin Manuel Miranda. Lin is a triple threat; playwright, singer, and actor which are all things I aspire to be. He proved that no matter where you’re from, if you work your hardest you can achieve great things. From a young age Lin’s parents encouraged him to start piano and theatre, which eventually lead to his starts on Broadway and Disney.…

I am inspired by those that act because the actors are challenging themselves and playing a role that they had most likely never played before. As the audience, I am absorbed into the characters’ world and how the little mannerisms of each character complete the play as a whole. I am an absolute fanatic for theatrical performances, whether it be a play, musical, or dance. I think that performers have to express themselves effortlessly, unbeknownst to the audience. By experiencing it firsthand through pit orchestra, I was fully able to appreciate how much time was put into the preparation of of a performance. As a student at Wellesley, I will be frequenting the musicals and plays performed by the theater because the fine arts is what fuels my imagination. Also through participating in pit, I learned that many, many hours are put into creating a fantastic, emotion-wrought performance. It is not just the actors that create the atmosphere, it is also the musicians. Along with the actors and possibly the music, there are more people that put the time into making the play “perfect”, something that the audience usually does not know or does not see. For this reason, I am very excited to learn that there is a theater (aka a place to watch plays/musicals/perform as a pit member) because whether I…

In the last four years, I was able to volunteer in different areas of the acting field to enhance my interests. I have had the opportunity to play the lead role in “Alice in Wonderland”, “Les Miserables”, “Of Mice and Men”, and “Wicked”. I was awarded the actress of the year for performing the lead role in the “Beauty and the Beast” musical in the theatre program. Last winter, I got the chance to explore many acting industries in New York and be a part of the supporting cast in the “Grease” musical at the Broadway show. I was able to communicate with many managers and performers and gain significant information about Broadway and other aspects of the acting industry. Moreover, I also run a private dance academy where various forms of dances are performed including ballet, hip hop, belly dance, tango, and salsa. As I was beginning a small career in the entertainment business, my mother was my source of encouragement. She inspired me to continue in the entertainment business because she knew that this was an opportunity of a life time. By the time I was eleven, I began using my voice in Spanish-language version of American films. Acting was becoming clear to me that it was my new calling and I cherished it more than singing and dancing. Then I received my first Broadway role at age thirteen where I was passing eleven and looking as if I was nine. I always looked young for my age. The Broadway drama I stared in was called Skydrift. Shortly after my appearance in the Broadway show, I was contacted by Hollywood talent scouts. The scout informed me that when the time was right he would notify me.…

A local theatre company pitched in to help repair our school’s stage, making it safe, functional and fun. Going to the symphony and performing on stage when I was young contributed to my passion for the performing arts. Last year, I performed in close to fifty choral, musical and theatrical events in my community and in Boston. I want to share my love of musical theatre with more students as well as the seniors in my community and am currently working with the director of the Boston Children’s Theatre and the principal of Quincy High School to ascertain whether it can be a satellite location for their summer studios. Bringing a well regarded performing arts program into the community will help more children acquire additional skills like creativity, confidence, problem solving, perseverance, focus, collaboration, and receiving constructive feedback. Seniors will be able to attend local theatre…

I started theatre in sixth grade, when I was in the ensemble of the Music Man at CAST Summer. From there, I gradually became more interested and I started auditioning for every play season. When I got to OPRF, the stakes exponentially grew. We had kids coming in from BRAVO, Ovation academy, all highly prestigious youth theaters in Oak Park. Acting became less of a pastime for me and more a defining way of life at OPRF. This year, I was lucky enough to get cast in a play, a feat I told myself I could never accomplish.…

The Arts have called my name for as long as I can remember. As a child, I dabbled in any intensively creative and performative thing that was in the immediate vicinity. I would go around telling all my peers that when I grew up, I was going to have any one of a number of extravagant careers: I would promise to become a famous actress on Monday, declare myself a world-class musician on Wednesday and swear to grow to be a best-selling novelist by Friday. The Arts, and all they encompassed, were my first love. It only seemed natural to me, like eating or blinking, that my life should be dedicated to the very thing that made me the happiest. I finally took my ambitions to heart my first year of high school, where I eagerly sought out beginning…
