Mayan Civilization Vs Inca Civilization
The main civilizations of the ancient Americas developed and grew in their own unique way. Out of the Mayan, Aztec, and Incan civilizations, I would most want to live in the Inca civilization. First of all, the Incan cities had a well thought out road system. There were over 14,000 miles of paved roadways. Along with the roads, there were bridges over ravines and rivers. Some areas with rough terrain even had a basket pulley system to get across. Secondly, the Incas had an intricate way of communicating and keeping records. They used quipu knots as a way to keep records and communicate. The complex knots were made out of numerous colors that all had different meanings. Along each strand a knot was tied and each type of knot also resembled a …show more content…
The Aztecs preformed many rituals that involved multiple sacrifices. I do not agree with the use of human sacrifice which is murder on a mass scale. Secondly, marriages in the Aztec civilization (along with the Mayans) were forced. It was a law for a man to get married by the age of twenty. Spouses were “picked” by the parents and freewill was not present. Lastly, the Aztecs were very violent and in a constant state of warfare. Men were trained at a young age to wield weapons and fight. I am not fond of the fighting and sense of war being the only way of honor. I would not want to live in the Mayan civilization either. First, I do not like the standard of beauty the people had. They thought that it was beautiful to have piercings, tattoos, and pointed teeth. I do not see the point in have such beauty “trends.” Secondly, marriages in the Mayan civilization happened at a young age. The typical marriage age would be a sixteen year old boy marrying a twelve year old girl. I find that personally sickening for someone to be married at such a young age. Another reason I would not want to live in the Mayan civilization is the children would on purposely be deformed. Infants’ heads would be bound with boards at an angle so their skulls would have a slanted shape. The Mayans would also try to make their eyes crossed on purpose. I find these deformities pointless (like Chinese foot binding). Lastly, the southern region owned by the Mayans “mysteriously” collapsed. I would not want to live in a civilization that either could not hold power, or was susceptible to invasion. In conclusion, out of the ancient civilizations, I would prefer to live in the Incan civilization and not live in the Mayan and Aztec

The Aztecs practiced what we now called democracy. The Aztecs had a supreme speaker (not an emperor) and divided their land into corporate clans, where each clan elected their administration officers and speakers. They also had a gran administration that elected the supreme speaker. Down in the south the Incas had what seems today a state of the art agricultural system. They had fertilizers and developed a different type of plant for the different type of soil. They had a massive diversity within potatoes reaching up to three thousands five hundred types of potatoes. They had different types of plants for the different types of systems. Throughout the whole Americas the indigenous people had an understanding in medicine. The Aztec had a sophisticated medical system ranging from surgeons to healers. The people from the Andes even preform brain surgery. If paying attention to their society they all focus to main things, their religion (for many if not all relate to nature) and the well-being of their own people. For the most part the sun was the key of their religion or their god .They specifically value nature for everything that was giving to them. They used gold and other metals to decorate and didn’t worship or gave it much focus. Due to their focus on nature and not greed they were able to invent and discover the many benefits that our…

“The engineers showed great cleverness and skill in supplying water for the crops, since only scattered sections of the land could grow corn. For this reason, they endeavored to increase its fertility as much as possible.” This was a quote from Garciasco de la Vega, a son of a Spanish explorer and an Incan princess, which described a method of farming in the Incan empire in 1539. The three most advanced civilizations were the Mayans, the Aztecs, and the Incas. All three civilizations made major accomplishments, all being added upon and used by other civilizations. For example, the Mayans had created a calendar with three hundred sixty-five and a quarter days. The Incas had created terrace farming to create better and a larger amount of crops. All of these civilizations have impacted the world today.…

Two important empires that were raised during 600-1550 CE in the Americas are the Aztec Empire in Mesoamerica, and the Inca Empire in the Andes. “The Inca Empire and its contemporary Aztec Empire grew out of political, economic, and cultural pattern that began to form around 600 CE” (Von Sivers et al. 433). The Inca and Aztec Empires are an important and valuable piece of history that represent the innovations and rapid growth from the past cultures.
