Who is Maya Angelou? Some would say she’s the greatest poet of all time, and I would agree with this. It may just be an opinion but Maya was and is such and inspirational person just by her words. Maya Angelou is a remarkable author and poet. Maya also has had many other occupations, such as: actress, historian, filmmaker, and civil rights activist. Maya Angelou is one of the most significant voices of our time; Maya is such an influential person moving people with what she says. Marguerite Ann Johnson commonly known as Maya Angelou is an African American Author and Poet. First, Maya wrote and published seven biographies. For example, one of her most known autobiographies is “I know why the caged bird sings”. Second, Maya had many other occupations during her life. For instance Maya was a pimp, prostitute, and nightclub dancer and performer at the age of 19. In addition, Maya was a civil rights activist. In particular, her books mainly focused on the theme racism. In sum, Angelou went through a lot of rough times to get to where she is now. During Maya’s teenage years she loved the arts and it was the love for art that got her a scholarship. First, Angelou went to George Washington High school and California Labor School. In addition, Maya studied dance and drama while at the California Labor School. Secondly, Maya dropped out to become California’s first African American female car conductor. Furthermore, she went back to school to finish it. In addition, Maya gave birth to her son, Guy, a few weeks after her graduation. Angelou was a young and single mother so she did many things to support her only son. For instance, Maya worked as a waitress and cook to support him.
