“Maturity is a State of Mind”
Hello to everyone watching this video. My name is Sydney Adalin and I’m going to be talking about ‘How being a grown up is a state of mind.’
I would like to say that I believe that the quotation is indeed truthful because we may grow old physically, but that doesn’t mean that we have to start acting older. Growing older always happens, but growing up mentally is always optional. A sure example would be me as I am reaching the so-called “Age of Legal Adulthood” but I can and sometimes still act as if I’m 5 or 10 years younger. I don’t mind it because I still consider myself as a young person and still have lots of time to ‘grow up.’
Now, Growing up is the process where a human being steadily begins to lose their inner child. Gaining maturity can be a good thing if we’re talking about the privileges that comes when you reach a certain age but as a state of mind, it can be prudish, lifeless and boring. When you become a fully developed, a "grown up," then, it is most common that the person has completely forgotten their inner child completely. It’s a sad, sad truth. People trade passions for comfort, aspirations for reputations, and dreams for dollars.
To “defy maturity” is to just forget about what age you are and how you think you are supposed to act. It doesn’t matter whether you’re young or old, what matters is the attitude and the way you feel when you’re thoroughly enjoying yourself. Smiling and laughing are wonderfully contagious, as they give others permission to express joy and share happiness.
If you would allow yourself to simply visualize your favorite thing in the world—whatever it may be. May it be food, shoes, or an extra life for the candy crush saga. Can you tell if that specific object or material is really your favorite thing in the world? Absolutely. Its form, texture, color, or any other characteristic that it possesses have already been instilled in your mind like how you're familiar with your ABCs. Getting your favorite thing in the world and knowing that you'll get to keep it with you, will be able to be the key to a certain lock that would bring out that joy and happiness to you.
This simple but delightful experience has its parallels in other areas of life. For one thing, as is true with familiarity of your favorite thing, maturity in a person is also manifest in various ways. We recognize maturity in a person when we see discernment, insight, wisdom, and so on. (Job 32:7-9) It is certainly a delight to associate and work with people who display such qualities in their attitudes and actions."
