    Menendez Brothers

The legal issue here is a double homicide. The two young men, Lyle Menendez and Erik Menendez, were accused and later convicted of killing their parents. On the night of the murder, their parents, Jose Menendez and Kitty Anderson, were at lying on the couch asleep when their two sons came in and shot them both dead with shotguns. The shot guns were purchased several days before, showing premeditation. The boys purposely chose to murder their parents on a night when their maid was off work, displaying special legal circumstances “lying and wait.” Due to these “special circumstances” the Menendez brothers were eligible for the death penalty. The brother’s defense was that they were sexually and psychologically abused by their mother and father for years. The brothers painted a picture of how controlling and abusive their father was and that their mother was emotionally and mentally unstable. The brothers never mentioned a word about the alleged abuse before the trial started, not even to their psychotherapist Dr. Jerome Oziel. The boys said that they feared their parents were going to kill them and they acted upon it by killing them out of fear. The prosecution claimed that the boys were selfish and that their motive was greed because they were not going to put into their fathers will. There are a few pieces of evidence that really make the brothers story hard to believe. One is the 911 call where the boys acted like they were upset that “someone killed their parents.” Two, after their parents were dead the young men spent approximately one million dollars of their parents money on over indulging themselves. Three, the tapes that were retrieved from their psychotherapist contained their confession. In these tapes they threatened his life if Dr. Oziel turned them in. The Menendez brothers had two trials, both in which they plead not guilty. The first one ended…

One of the most important hopes of any parent is to raise a happy and healthy child, and watch that child grow up and become an adult. What if one of those children had a disease that would one day claim his or her life? What if there was an option that could save your child’s life? To what lengths will parents go to save the life of a terminally ill child? A savior sibling is a child selected as a result of genetic screening to have some innate characteristics that will help save the life of an existing brother or sister (Saviour sibling). In 1990, Abe and Mary Ayala became the first successful publicized case in which a family sought to conceive a child (Marissa) to save another child (Anissa). Anissa was battling leukemia when her parents decided to conceive another child that was an exact bone marrow match. Nothing is more wonderful than the birth of a baby. Babies are a symbol of life and love that a man and woman create together. It is heartbreaking when a man and woman just can’t seem to conceive a child, but with the medical advances today we have something called in vitro fertilization. The process of in vitro fertilization is not guaranteed to be 100% to always work but it definitely increases the chances of a woman giving birth to a baby. Now imagine that baby is sick or not healthy. Maybe that baby has a rare disease and there is little to no hope of him or her surviving. Is there anything you would not do to save your baby? What if it meant giving birth to another baby? Unfortunately this is a scenario that happens. Parents of terminally ill children make the decision to have another baby in order to save the child they already have. The babies are called “savior siblings”. This sounds like a great solution for the problem, but what about the new baby as it grows up? What are the risks and the down sides to creating savior siblings”?…

In the film The Matrix, The Wachowski Brothers demonstrate that inquisitiveness primarily results in positive outcomes, but that it can also result in discomfort and agony. In The Matrix, curiosity is shown through the characters’ actions, as they question their existence and the world which they thought was ‘reality.’ Firstly, since the birth of humanity, discovering our existence and purpose has been a predominant focus in the human experience. Additionally, the decisions in which humans make ultimately affect the person they become, as it shape their identity and future. Finally, it is evident that a battle against good and evil ultimately results in self-discovery. It is the curiosity which sparks the following actions, and in due course can result in positive and negative outcomes.…

In 1228 B.C., the mortal king Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) of Heraklion searches for the bow, intending to use it to release the Titans to spite the gods for failing to save his family. The play we have been working on ‘Blood Brothers’. The plot of the story is about a pair of twins who got separated at birth, but their backgrounds in life take them to different paths which lead to opposite social lives. The play had a first run at West End in London in 1983 and it is written by Willy Russell. The play was set in Liverpool in 1962 and continues for around 20 years. The main theme in the play is the different classes i.e. Mrs Johnstone and Mickey being from a not so rich background so they are in lower-middle class, whereas Mrs Lyons is very rich which means she is in upper class. The other themes are; Class, Violence Superstition/Religion, and Parenting & Family Values. The style of the piece is naturalistic but also has some variety of non-naturalistic drama into it. I think that the aim for Willy Russell’s play was to demonstrate the classes of his time period, but also to make the audience to think about why there are even classes and how they think and act around each other. It’s also to make people think about what the effect of their actions do to the people. He would like the audience to think about the reason why the classes treat each other, which is because of the amount of money they have! Which Willey Russell thinks it isn’t right, as he shows how their lives changes for which classes they are in, and makes it effective by showing how their paths in life go as they get older. My scene is where Sammy and his friends are having a go at Mickey, but Linda steps in and helps/sorts it out. Sammy is the main one of his friends, and he does like to show off in front of his friends but also don’t really pay attention to anything much, whereas Mickey doesn’t, Mickey is more of a quiet/shy boy who puts his head down with education and focuses on the important things in life. I would like to achieve for them to think about the classes of that time period and what is was like to get something you…

Abstract Working with groups of people who have been sexually abused introduces mutual experiential themes into the process that can be beneficial and meaningful. This paper discusses brother–sister incestuous sexual abuse with implications for group work. Literature and research is reviewed concerning sexual abuse, incest, family relationships, and theories that aid in explaining incest. Themes covered include: effects of incest, coping methods, blaming, and family of the victim. Common themes are explored and implications for group work are suggested on the basis of length, detail, structure, content, and pre-group contact. Keywords Sibling incest . Group practice . Group therapy Sibling incest is widely believed by researchers and clinicians to the most common type of incest (Carlson et al. 2006). Historically, the issue of father–daughter incest has been most often referred to when speaking of incest as a form of sexual abuse; and the concept of sibling incest has been ignored. Despite the high occurrence of sibling incest and its negative effects, attention to this issue by the family, researchers, and professionals has been lacking (Bass et al. 2006). In fact, violence between siblings is much more prevalent than child abuse by parents (Kiselica and MorrillRichards 2007). The purpose of this discussion is to highlight the experience of victims of sibling incest by shedding light on their feelings, thoughts, and mental and emotional issues that are a result of incestuous abuse. Based on the understanding of the sibling relationship and aspects of sibling incest, a model for group therapy is introduced…
