INTRODUCTION
Planting Material Production Centre (PMPC) which is located at Tarat, Serian is one of the research institutes that had done research on producing the Matag hybrid. During our visit, PMPC workers had shown to us the new hybrid coconut which is Matag. Matag is a famous coconut (Cocos nucifera) clones in Malaysia. Matag hybrid is a breed between Malayan Red Dwarf (MRD) or Malayan Yellow Dwarf (MYD) with Tagnanan variety. Both MYD and MRD are origin from the Malaysia while the Tagnanan variety is a species that origin from the Philippines. The most suitable time to do this process is early in the morning which is before 10 a.m. As mentioned by the PMPC worker, at this time, the stigma is stickier, and to avoid natural hybrid cause by insects.
