Master Teacher Observation
My master teacher and I chose to build a student profile around Anthony Mireles. Throughout this process my master teacher is hoping Anthony will obtain the skills necessary to graph inequalities and find the x and y intercepts on a line. These skills will be obtained through small group tutoring as well as one on one tutoring, per the master teachers request. Anthony is a fourteen-year-old male and a freshman at Orestimba High School, this year he is in enrolled in Math I according to the common core standards. While Anthony often seems sand and distant in class, he is very friendly and respectful when approached. From an outer exterior it may seem as if Anthony has fallen in with the wrong crowd; however like any student he is eager to please and seems to respond well when given close proximity. It requires constant motivation from the teacher in order for Anthony to turn his assignment, and according to his teacher he has a large number of missing assignments. When the teacher or myself assist Anthony individually he appears more confident when solving problems. While Anthony seems to have some close friends he does not socialize much with the other students. This could be due to the fact that Anthony is an English learner, whose parents and siblings only speak Spanish. Technically …show more content…
It is obvious his main struggle is the fact that he is an English learner. While working with Anthony I learned quickly that he is a bright young man, who just needs a little extra help because of the language gap. Word problems are especially hard for him, simply because he does not understand most of what he is reading. Small group tutoring is also a struggle for Anthony, he tends to shy away and disconnect when asked questions while in the group. Using technology is also ineffective during tutoring. Anthony does not seem to have much experience with computers and he becomes frustrated very

I must say, according to my observation in the scenario I really see two strategies that is being used to help the E.L.Ls. The strategies was used on Maria that just arrived in the class but has been there for only five months. What I observed was that the teacher has a student helping her and is making sure she is involved in all activities. This will help her build her social development skills. But the downfall is that her speech will not improve since the teacher is really not doing much to help her with her speech. But on a good note he is considering on getting her tested for her speech to make sure she does not have a disability. My second observation was from his E.L.L student, Mikhail. I really don’t see that he is using any strategy to help him when it comes down to his social skills. This might be because He has been in the states a lot longer. This is an advantage he has on Maria when it comes to social development skills. But the teacher is concerned with his writing Since he sees that his level in speaking English is so dominant and it is not falling in place with his writing and he seem a little confused and not sure how to address the situation.…

Johnathan has a disability known as Autism, which hinders his everyday learning. Autism is identified as a complex developmental disability. Professionals believe that Autism presents itself during the first three years of a person's life. This condition is the consequence of a neurological disorder that has an effect on a brain’s normal function, affecting the development of the person's communication and social interaction skills. Autism places a daily struggle on Johnathan’s education and his strengths and weaknesses are very apparent. A major weakness for Johnathan is his disinterest in social interaction. When placed in a group setting, he will not interact with his peers. For instance, during Physical Education class; he will stand along the side and will only join the group when his PCA encourages him to do so. His communication skills fail him in other key areas as well. Due to his Autism, Johnathan needs extensive time to process theories and to express his thoughts and responses. At times, it will take him up to a minute to process the information and form an appropriate response. A person with autism may often miss a cue that their teacher presents, which would cause a battle within the classroom setting. A student with Autism like Johnathan might not know that somebody is trying to talk to them. They may also be very interested in talking to a particular person or group of people, but do not have the same skills as others to become fully involved and this will cause frustration. Johnathan simply lacks the necessary playing and talking skills. This causes a major issue within the classroom, because he is consistently playing catch up. Another weakness that Johnathan displays is his need to do things in multiples of 3. Luckily, his classmates have adapted to this requirement and they accommodate him when needed. This weakness will only hamper him as he grows older, because the world will not adjust to his necessary modifications. This would also cause a…

“In an effective classroom students should not only know what they are doing. They should also know why and how.” Harry Wong is an educational speaker that tries to help teachers be able to not only educate their students, but also teach them how to comprehend and logically think. Even at Tell City Jr.-Sr. High School, there are a variety of different types of teachers; moreover, this affects the atmosphere of their classrooms. Many outsiders may see our school as boring and being the same as any old school. For the students, every single classroom has a different atmosphere that they either love or greatly dislike.…
