Mastectomy Challenges
Dealing with breast cancer is a life-changing challenge. A common part of this challenge is dealing with the physical and psychological changes associated a mastectomy. Removal of one or both breasts changes the way a woman thinks about her body and about herself. Breast reconstruction can help reduce or mitigate these challenges.

As a woman grows up, she gets used to the balance of her breast line and the proportions it brings to her feminine curves. However, a breast reconstruction surgery has even more dramatic results. Where there was once nothing but scar tissue, the shape of a breast returns. It may not be perfect, but it is there. That change is permanent. There is no need to wear a prosthesis or be self-conscious while out in public.

No need for a prosthesis

Women who delay getting reconstructive surgery often wear a breast prosthesis. This gives them a balanced appearance and helps restore their proportions while out in public. It helps keep them from feeling self-conscious. With breast reconstruction surgery, there is no need to wear a prosthesis. The surgery can often be done in conjunction with the mastectomy itself.

Breast reconstruction surgery has advanced in the past few years. Cosmetic surgeons offer multiple options for how and when to perform the surgery, giving survivors choices. Suffering from cancer is painful and I wonder if having this surgery is safe enough for women that have had health issues, also is there some type of program that offers to counsel when women are confused about this procedure. Donne, explains that " 40 percent of reconstruction patients required additional surgeries "(p.664), these statistics are interesting I wonder if women know this, would this information change the mind of this women. Educating our society about how a women's health is more important than what society thinks of a women's body supposed to look Is necessary. why do society expect women that survive cancer to have a reconstruction surgery why can we just be okay with what they choose and not judge them? The reconstruction surgery is dangerous and I wonder why do women that have already struggle with their health have to put their health at risk once…

Taking into account of all the issues above, I will put into consideration of the four main principles of medical ethics into the discussion, which are “… promoting benefit (beneficence), avoiding or minimizing harm (non-maleficence), respecting people and their autonomy (respect for autonomy) and fairness (justice)” [2]. Deciding on which treatment benefits the patient is an ethical dilemma. Before deciding between WLE and mastectomy, the surgeon has to present a complete and balance presentation to the patient concerning the pros and cons of said procedures. Even if the patient opt for either type of surgery, the definitive risk of local recurrence is still uncertain and hard to predict. Plus, the nature of cancer itself is unpredictable.…
