Maslow Hierarchy

1.0 Introduction Whatever we look around us, every life needs something to develop it including human. Human has six senses compare to others so human has proper guidance to achieve their life. According to Orlando (1960), “need is a necessity of the person which, if supplied, relieves or diminishes his immediate distress or improves his immediate logic of adequacy or well-being”. Health and survival is the most important for human being to live longer and healthily. Hence, human needs medical treatment and consultation from doctors, who known as patient. Nurses play a vital role to fulfill patient’s needs. Patients have to be satisfied with nurses’ job as nurses have to treat and communicate well. The main thing is to care for patients and coherent method of planning to treat the actual or potential health troubles and to promote wellness. In addition, nursing process, which consist of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation, provides a work structure to the nurses to be responsible and accountable of patients needs. There are three priority settings which are the high priority, medium priority, and the low priority. High priority is the patients with life threatening patients, medium priority is the patients with problems that threaten health or coping ability, and the low priority is the patient who does not have major cause if not focus to that day or week. Therefore, nursing care plan is a form of guideline or strategies of care that performing on patient in written form to know to which patient suppose to give the priority first. There are many theories in Nursing that can apply in their practice of patient care. One of the theories is Maslow Hierarchy of Needs. Maslow’s theory has been used in nursing profession to develop the performance of a nurse so as to increase indulgence, efficiency, commitment, and the value of the professional practice environment which author is going to further explain in the next topic.
