Masina Hospital Case Study
Chapter 7: Contribution to Healthcare.
The contribution of the Jewish community of Bombay is not limited to education, economy, and architecture alone; they had some very important contributions in the field of healthcare as well. Earlier all initiatives behind medicine and public health were depicted to be entirely British efforts . However this thought was challenged by David Arnold who was a later scholar who states, “It is certainly important to recognize the extent to which western medicine in India relied upon state action for its propagation and to take into account the influence of Indian resistance to its development, it is also necessary to appreciate the role of Indian leadership and indigenous strategies….one largely neglected aspect

It was the first house of David Sassoon in Byculla and was initially the hub of activities of the Baghdadi Jews. David Sassoon was so impressed by the service rendered by Dr Homasji Manekji Masina that he gave the entire property, measuring around 8 acres for a humble sum of Rs.25, 000.

I can relate to your story. In 2004 a similar situation happened to me. As an emergency care nurse at Jackson Memorial Hospital located in the downtown area of Miami Florida, you are exposed to every situation. During changed of shift, the nurse reported that a patient came with an open abdominal wound post an altercation. She also mentioned that he is a newly diagnosed HIV patient, and the primary doctor just informed him of his diagnosis. As we were making rounds, I realized that I knew the man, and his wife is my hairdresser. Like you, I manage to keep my professionalism and care for him. We were not friends, but I am sure he was worried that I would tell his wife, not knowing that would be an HIPA violation, and I could lose my license.…

Grady Memorial Hospital frequently referred to as Grady Hospital or simply Grady, is the largest hospital in the state of Georgia and is the public hospital for the city of Atlanta. Historical segregation of its hospital units meant that it was also called "The Gradys," a name that still surfaces among elderly Atlanta residents, especially African Americans. Grady is a Level I trauma center. Trauma is any life-threatening occurrence, either accidental or intentional that causes injuries. The leading causes of trauma are motor vehicle accidents, falls, and assaults. Located downtown near the campus of Georgia State University, Grady is considered to be one of the premier public hospitals in the Southern United States. Grady Hospital is named for Henry W. Grady, an Atlanta Constitution journalist and later owner who became a major force in Georgia politics, and advocated for a public city hospital. Grady is now the flagship of the Grady Health System (Grady, 2009). Marketing plays an important role at Grady Memorial Hospital. This paper will explain product, price, place and promotion of this hospital as well as examine the relationship between the organizations marketing and partnerships. It will also touch on why…

At Reddy Medical Group, all health care providers are employed and as such, do not have control of their own scheduling. In contrast, the Veterans’ Affairs (VA) allow their providers to control their own schedules, as per class discussion. While this allows VA providers with more freedom, it also introduces the possibility for scheduling manipulation. As a result, the volume of patients seen by VA providers may misalign with the intended mission of Veterans’ Affairs. The emergency room is unquestionably a fast-paced environment especially at Grady Memorial Hospital located in the heart of downtown Atlanta where I want to work. Grady is probably one of the busiest emergency departments in Georgia with a patient count that ranges from 25 to 100,000 clients a year. One could only imagine how busy a nurse would be in that environment. As an ER nurse you need to have the ability to shift gears and accelerate your pace as needed, additionally you need to have the ability to think fast on your feet as well as good observation, assessment, and prioritization skills. I originally wanted to become a physician assistant but decided against it when I found out what the salary was during that time, as a result I wasted…

As stated by Committee for the Study of the Future of Public Health; Division of Health Care Services, Prior to the eighteenth century there was several epidemics of plague, cholera, and smallbox, which provoked sporadic public efforts to protect citizens in the face of a dread disease (1988, p.57). During the eighteenth century public health awareness and efforts helped disease to be seen through a new scope of human health conditions rather than a super natural effect that could be controlled through isolation of the ill and quarantine of people who traveled. Many people thought disease was contributed to poor moral or even a spiritual mediated factor that could be healed through prayer and/or meditation.…

The first place we are going to investigate is India’s medical field. In order to do this, one must look back about 160 years or so. There were no hospitals to go to back then. If you were sick a friendly neighbor would have been your only means of assistance. A lady living back then may not have even had that much support. It would have depended whether or not her caste was acceptable to society as to whether or not she would have gotten help.…

Tipoo’s tiger is a significant symbol between the East and West. It represents India’s dominance over the West, Europe. The Tiger represents India’s power, with the soldier representing Britain. However, Tipoo’s Tiger is located at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. It was captured from the Sultan after the British invaded Seringapatam and killed Tipu Sultan on the 4th May, 1799. The palace was then attacked and the Sultans belongings scattered, with many ending up in Britain, most noticeably, the representation, carved in wood, of a tiger devouring an English soldier. It was kept for a time it was kept at the headquarters of the East India Company before being transferred in the 1850s to the South Kensington Museum, now the Victorian and Albert Museum. This represents a significant end to the conflict. It lies on display for all to remember Tipu’s power and the attitudes towards Europeans at that time. It’s also a symbol for many Asians living in Britain today, as it represents past events, the victories India had to overcome. However, William Dalrymple believes that even with such symbols, history is always going to repeat itself. He believes there are many similarities in Henry Dundas, the minister who oversaw the East India company, and Richard Wellesley with Bush and Rumsfield. “Dundas and Wellesley were certainly more intelligent and articulate than Bush or Rumsfield, but they were no less cynical in their aims, nor less ruthless in the means they employed to affect them.” (Dalrymple, www.guardian.co.uk, 2005)…
