The city is located in the UAE, near the city of Abu Dhabi. It was initiated in 2006 and is expected to be completed between 2015 and 2020. The city occupies an area of 6 square kilometers and will cost about $22 billion. This huge project aims at creating a pollution-free place with zero carbon emissions. It was designed by the British architectural firm Foster and Partners. However, the construction is carried out by Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company. The city is planned to accommodate a population of about 45,000 to 50,000 people. It will also hold nearly 1500 businesses as well as Masdar Institute of Science and Technology. Masdar city is an environment-friendly project. Gasoline automobiles are banned from this city, and the means of transport are automated electric-powered vehicles that do not cause air pollution. In addition to that, the city uses renewable sources of energy such as solar power and wind power. A solar power plant has been built to provide the city with clean electricity.
