When I think about someone who seems to fit this bill, only one person comes to mind, my grandmother of 69 years of age. I am an eyewitness to the love and sacrifice exuded by her on the day to day through her unconditional willingness to help others and her desire to spend quality time with them. However, my knowledge of the way my grandma lived her life prior to me being born is very limited and with her only growing older and older, the story of her life is slowly fading further into oblivion. This is my attempt to remember her while she is still with us. This is the story of my grandmother, Mary Kay Amodo.
She was born on February 07, 1947, in the great city of Lawrence, Kansas in the community of Leavenworth. She was born to Gladys Seanor, a nurse’s aid at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Clarence Wiley, a window washer. Her father’s work eventually …show more content…
However, she had always known that wanted to become a nurse’s aid just like her mother was. Her first job was assisting her school’s nurse in washing sheets and cleaning counters. After graduating high school, she decided to stay home to be with her parents, rather than going off to college (but if you ask her, she attended Hard Knocks). However, while at home, Mary Kay began to grow a deeper passion for wanting to become a nurse’s aid. After only four months of being out of high school she got a job of being nurse’s aid at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, the same hospital where her mother worked at when she was much younger. (At those times, nurses and nurse’s aids didn’t need to have much of an education in order to become one). There, Mary Kay learned how to care for and treat her patients with lots of love and kindness. Her favorite part of the job was being the one who would a smile on her patients’
