Martin Luther King Jr.: An Important Person In The Civil Rights Movement

On January 15, 1929 a very important person was born, even though they didn't know it at the time. It was Martin Luther King Jr., he had done a lot of great things over his life. Martin is a very important person in our history of civil rights movement. On December 25, 1955 Martin was 26 years old. As a 26 year old he became the president of the Montgomery Improvement Association. Before he was the president, he was at a mass meeting at Holt Street Baptist Church. The meeting is where the Montgomery Improvement Association was formed. On that day is when they chose Martin Luther King Jr. to become the president of the association. Eight years later, Martin leads a march with 200,000 or more people. He leads the March on Washington for jobs and freedom. The march took place in front of the Lincoln Memorial. The people marched in the shadows of the Lincoln Memorial. The end of the March on Washington, is where Martin Luther King Jr. gave his famous "I Have a Dream" speech. …show more content…
