Martha Kostyra (Martha Stewart) was born on August 3rd, 1941 in Jersey City, New Jersey
Second oldest of six children in her family
Grew up in a working class community in Nutley, New Jersey right near New York City
Age of 13 she started working as a model, she would appear in fashion shows as well as TV and print advertisements
Her parents married when mother was pregnant
Mother was a teacher and was always affected by past family issues
Father was very hard on Martha
Martha would do very well in school earning straight A’s in school which earned her a scholarship at Barnard College in Manhattan, New York She would receive a degree in European and Architectural History in 1962.
