Most of the assigned books that I have read in my English classes are boring and dull. I repeatedly took breaks and checked how much longer I had until I reached the assigned reading portion for the night. However, The Glass Castle by Jeanette Walls was not one of these books. I flipped through page after page as I read about Jeanette Walls and her interesting life story. The reason that I was intrigued with Jeanette Walls memoir was because I related it to my family. Throughout the book, I found similarities between my family and the Walls’ through Jeanette’s siblings, Rose Mary, and the family chemistry.…

The community that I am most close to is my school community. Most of us share a common religion and unique abilities to serve others. When I first joined the St. Francis DeSales community I did not know what to expect. Going from a public school to a private catholic school was a big step for me. When I entered St. Francis DeSales for the first time, I was welcomed with open arms and hearts. I was surprised how well everybody knew each other and came from different backgrounds. I was joining a community of friendship and common beliefs. Now being a senior, I am proud to say that the community at DeSales is strong and friendly towards others. We are there for each other and help each other out during the tough times. When someone is…

As always, there are many great reflections to consider as we are in the midst of the summer months and as we consider all of the wonderful things happening at Bethany. I figured for my July Musings, I would share information which happened at our annual Synod Assembly during the first weekend of June. Bethany sent 4 representatives (Myrriah Wertz, Travis McMasters, Jodi Johnson, and myself). I first want to thank you as members of this congregation for supporting these individuals who represented you in the most faithful way possible. I also hope the report which you will read in a moment will be one to inspire you of all the wonderful ministries happening within the Allegheny Synod Territory and the larger Lutheran Church. Our reps said how…

My experience with Jostens renaissance program started in ninth grade when I signed up for the yearbook class. In yearbook, the other students and I were able to express the school’s creativity, spirit, and love for each other. The yearbook staff was able to work together with Jostens to create memories and experiences. I enjoyed using the Jostens Renaissance Program because it is a great representation of the schools culture and community. Everyone in the school district has witnessed and experienced the products and materials that Jostens provides for its consumers. The yearbook is a reflection of the culture of the school, and how the students interact with one another, build, and shape their school’s community. The yearbook is a tool that…

In our interview she stated, “I'm extremely passionate about my job. I love working with athletes and love sports more than anything(except my dogs)” (Herrmann). This helps her to stand out in her profession and has helped her to obtain many awards like being the All-State Athletic Trainer six years in a row. She has also implemented several student athletic training programs and works to bring “things to PCN such as a concussion protocol for the district and lightening protocol for the district” (Herrmann). She works very hard to ensure that Putnam City North gets the top of the line rehabilitation products and that we take care of our athletes to the best of our ability. It has been my great honor to study under Herrmann and learn from from her. She is an amazing example and has helped me to realize that I can reach my goals just like she…

The youth of the world can be heavily influenced by people that they come in contact with and some people realize that and try to be a positive influence on them. In early 2012 I was able to meet Rev. Jennifer Carner who heightened my senior year of high school and my church experience as well. She was placed in my church as the youth pastor and was to work with the children in the youth program and enhance the experience. When we first encountered each other, she told me that her first impression of me was that I looked like an intimidating person with a lot of attitude, which I have heard from other people. I was a part of the first graduating class that she worked with and during her time at the church I was able to make a very close connection…

Melenie, you have touched on one of the comments which I found surprising in this weeks reading. A “pastoral counselors should be cautious about immediately assuming that all problems a queer person is experiencing in life are related to being queer.” (Hays, 2015, p.342) Prior to this week’s reading I believed this should be very obvious. I would not want to go to counselor and have them say the problem’s I am experiencing in life are because I am black and being discriminated against. If I heard that I would possibly feel hopeless, because just like the queer person who cannot change their queer, I cannot change my…

Additionally, Mimi’s background includes a strong education and solid experience. Her Berkeley and Stanford degrees and past job positions will allow her to perform the job at a higher level of expertise than many other potential job applicants. As discussed in class, employers should hire based on ability to perform and not on hard data and statistics. From these standpoints, the benefits to hiring outweigh the costs. For these reasons, I support the decision to hire Mimi. I feel that she would make an excellent addition and make a great deal of contributions to Hathaway…
