Mark Watney: A Short Story
After the dust storm on Mars, we learn that Mark Watney finds himself impaled by a metal antenna piece, next he cuts the antenna off and limps slowly to the main habitat , after pulling out the metal shard he quickly stitches together his wound.
"The antenna had enough force to punch through the suit and my side, but it had been stopped by my pelvis. So there was only one hole in the suit (and a hole in me, of course). I had been knocked back quite a ways and rolled down a steep hill. Somehow I landed face down, which forced the antenna to a strongly oblique angle that put a lot of torque on the hole in the suit. It made a weak seal."(Weir 17) Mark survives the entire night with a hole in his suit on

This spring I had the opportunity to shadow Brandon Paine at Farm Credit Services of America in Mason City. Brandon is a Financial Officer, this means he lend money to farmers and/ or people looking to buy homes in a small community. Throughout the day, I also have the opportunity to visit with an employee of Farm Credit Services of America in each occupation in the office. In the book “Warriors of Japan as Portrayed in the War Tales”, as the title suggests, author Paul Varley studies numerous war tales from hundreds of years of Japanese history, throughout the rise of the samurai warrior culture and the societal change that went along with it. From ancient war tales like the Shōmonki to tales firmly in the medieval times like the Taiheiki, the changes in battlefield customs and warrior society are presented and studied as they change and evolve. Despite all the social changes occurring in these time periods, a certain element stays the same throughout all these tales, the warriors themselves.…

A diary is known as a “book which one keeps a daily record of events and experiences.” Many people keep diaries to allow themselves to always remember their life experiences. Other people keep diaries to inform or instruct individuals to go through life experiences. However, after reading The Turner Diaries and researching the author I have come to believe this book was an act of an individual getting in the head of a terrorist who happens to be racist. William Pierce is also know as the false name Andrew Macdonald that is the writer of the fictional novel The Turner Diaries and this novel is his personal diary of Earl Turner. In this novel, Andrew Macdonald was the founder of an organization that believed that white people are better than others. This is also known as a supremacist organization that was called WFC. The WFC was responsible for different terrorist attacks and bombings within the United States. During the reading of the book it is as if Andrew Macdonald predicts a race war. During the year of 1970 there was a partnership with a New-Nazi belief system that was clearly known for mass murdering. In the novel, Andrew Macdonald uncovers the secrets of a terrorist.…

Mr. Hittson I totally apologize for Coltens actions. He is definately being raised better than that. I have had a long talk with him over this issue. I noticed this morning Colten seemed upset about something when he got dropped off. When he got into the school I texted him and told him to not let anything deter him in school if he is upset. He has been having girlfriend issues that I have been trying to guide him through and I think that is what has been wrong with him. He's usually not like this. He is being raised in a very good home with good guidance. I told him I will not tolerate him using profanity and disrespecting the teachers or the school. I also told him that in the future if he acts the same with future bosses, then he will be…

Howardsville, a quaint little city, nestled in the foothills of the Putney Mountains located forty miles southwest of Charleston, West Virginia, had its own dark history. Having lived his entire life in the two–story house on the outskirts of town, Ernest Cassidy was familiar with the myths, legends, and lies about his city and was always quick to defend it. The mysteries began years earlier when Dr. Ronald Hackney; a surgeon at General Hospital in Charleston came up missing. One morning, he didn’t arrive at the office, his nurse called the home. Up on finding his car in the garage and his keys in the garden his wife, Lily called the police. The volunteer rescue squad searched for several days and found no trace. It was as though he had disappeared.…

1st of all I think Ty Dooley did a great job speaking at the panel and really made look at things from a totally different prospective. Something that I’ve taken away from him during the event is even after we leave this diverse university environment it is up to each and every single one of us to keep the conversations going and regardless of the good and bad going on around us we should never forget about our heritage and background regardless of where that might possible be. Something else that he made me think is that if we choose to forget about history then it would surely repeat itself. I personally will take his advice by not being scared to speak up about certain issues within the university and even a larger community, I also learned…

In this paper, I will be discussing how I see my personal development using Donald Winnicott and his object relations view of the mother and child relationship and the “good-enough parent” point-of-view and Heinz Kohut and his analysis of self-psychology and empathy. I will show through examples how I feel that I have developed as an adult through the stages that both of these theorists have discovered. The paper will conclude with a discussion as to how I feel both of these theorists have affected my life in terms of my decision to go into social work.…

The person I am choosing to describe is my best friend, Matt Wotring. We first started talking near the end of July of last year, but didn’t really become friends until we hung out at a mutual friend’s birthday party at the beginning of October. Over the course of the past year, he and I have continued to grow closer and spend as much time together as possible. He has one of those charismatic personalities that is hard to find in the present world. He is very close with all of his family – and believe me, he has a lot of family living nearby – and is probably closer with his cousins than he is with any of his friends. He is currently a senior a Calvary Christian Academy and plans on continuing his education at Frostburg State University, majoring…
