1. Introduction. . This Bay Of Bengal is a huge resource for Bangladesh in aspects of fisheries and hydrocarbons. The People’s Republic of Bangladesh is a sovereign South Asian country. It is bordered by India in all sides except small border with Myanmar and a long coastal line with the Bay Of Bengal. The Bay Of Bengal is the largest bay in the world, forms the North-Eastern part of Indian Ocean. BIMSTEC or Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) supports free trade internationally around the Bay of Bengal between Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand 2. Fisheries. Bangladesh is having the 3rd largest aquatic biodiversity in Asia behind China & India. There are about 800 species of fresh, brackish & marine waters. It is having world’s largest flooded wetland (Bengal Delta) & three main river systems named Ganges, Brahmaputra & Meghna. Vast water resources offer the best possibilities for food security & income generation. In inland fisheries, Bangladesh's position is 2nd among the top ten fish producing countries of the world and among the top ten aquaculture producing countries Bangladesh’s position is sixth.Bangladesh possesses a wide range of fishes, prawns, lobsters and other crustaceans, molluscs, turtles and other fishery resources inhabiting its extensive marine and inland open waters. The total fish production of Bangladesh was estimated at 11,72,800 m tons in 1995. Inland open water fisheries contributed 73 percent of the total fish production. In 1987, Bangladesh became third in world inland fish and shrimp production after China and India and produced 5,81,827 m tons of fish and shrimp. Fisheries sector contributes 5.71% of total export earning and4.92% to the GDP. The sector contributes 22% of the total agricultural production & 63% of the total animal protein intake of the country. Present fish production(2007) is 2.56million tons, total marine catch is 497,573 tons (19.4%). Some statistics on Bangladesh fisheries are shown below. TOP TEN COUNTRIES IN INLAND CAPTURED FISHERIES

3. Sources Of Oil And Gas. The country has about 710km long coastal belt. The Area of EEZ is about 1,64,000km , which is larger than land area(1,44,000 sq km) of the country. Bangladesh is a vast populated country with a population of about 160 million of people. Day by day the population is increasing in a high rate. So, the need for energy is increasing as well. The statistics of available mineral resources in the land area of Bangladesh is given below. In using gas power sector ranks the highest (44%); fertilizer sector ranks the second (28%); and industry, domestic, commercial and other sectors together rank third (22%) in gas consumption. Currently 12 gas fields under public and private sectors are in production with gas supply between 900 and 930 mmcfg per day. There are 22 discovered gas fields in Bangladesh of various sizes. The total reserve of 20 gas fields is about 26 Tcf (trillion cubic feet). Gas in most of the fields is dry, in a few fields it is wet, with considerable amounts of condensate, eg at Beanibazar (16 bbl/mmcfg), Jalalabad (15 bbl/mmcfg), and Kailashtila (13 bbl/mmcfg). Currently, natural gas accounts for more than 70% of the total commercial energy consumption and...
