Marinette Dupain-Cheng: A Short Story
Marinette Dupain-Cheng always perceived herself as a girl who had her head up in the clouds. Marinette always found herself in the make-believe world she fabricated through her dreams. It was a perfect illusion of an animated fairy tale: Wizards, Goblins, and a handsome blond prince. Marinette giggled giddily like a schoolgirl when the face of the pretty boy came alive on her paper. Marinette drew him in exact detail; she made an extra effort to extract out his outfit. He had on a royal, thick robe, and imagined it was soft as a baby’s blanket. A caress whisper blew in her ear to gaze at his eyes. Marinette almost found them animalistic; like a cat who prowled itself in the jungle. The color green glittered itself in Marinette’s mind, which …show more content…
Marinette glared at Alya before their teacher made a dramatic cough to gain Marinette’s divine attention. All color drained from Marinette’s face when the whole class stared at her like she was on trial.

“Now that you are back on Earth with us, Miss Dupain-Cheng. Can you please tell us why the prince always kisses the princess in a fairy tale?” Madame Bustier inquired with a hint of amusement.

“Because only love conquers hate,” Marinette retorted strongly because she knew her fairy tales by heart.

“Very good, Marinette,” Madame Bustier said with a small smile as the bell rang.

“Don’t forget to finish your Collab of Fairytales’ assignment with your partner that’s due on Monday. Have a good weekend class!” Madame Bustier exclaimed before the students ran out of the classroom like cattle.

Alya put her hand on Marinette’s shoulder and gave her a knowing grin. “Well girl, I know you have tons of fairytale books that you store in that tower of yours. Any suggestion of fairytales we could use for our project, oh fantasy one?” Alya asked

Usually every morning before school; Marinette would spend her time at the library, but it was more like her private sanctuary. Marinette preferred to go in the early mornings because it wasn’t as crowded. Sometimes Marinette would imagine the library was hers, and that it was part of of an enchanted castle. Yes, Marinette knew she had a prodigious imagination, and that her fantasies were quite childish at times. However, she didn’t care because it made her happy to live in blissful ignorance.

Marinette smiled in content when they walked out of the confined school building. Rain drops started to fall down the sky, which her best friend grimaced at because Alya hated the rain. As for Marinette; she enjoyed the rain because it reminded her of a boy who shared his umbrella with her when she was a little kid. Marinette couldn’t remember his face, but she could still reminisce the encounter. It probably pursued her ten-year-old fantasy that princes really do exist. The way he did that chivalrous act was pretty princely to her, given by some of the snot face boys she encountered with throughout her young

I'm six years old, and I'm secretly watching the girls in my class loudly chatting in the corner of the classroom. It's 2008, and I'm quietly sitting on my desk, wondering to myself: "Am I not important enough for a simple goodbye?". I nervously shift on the chair, impatiently waiting for the minutes to tick by. My red sweater is itching against my throat. The teacher came in and we begin class as usual. Ms. Claudia is talking about our final reflections…

The elderly nature and religious background of Margret enabled the uneducated ladies to gain a greater understanding of how to cope and respond to conflict in extreme situations. The qualities shown by Margret when in adverse situations clearly reflect greater composure and internal strength, without fear of emotions overriding her actions. An example clarifying this is the words of Margret at the place of Wing’s funeral; the peaceful but meaningful words help ease the shock and pain they feel.…

Milun, a knight of South Wales was recognized to be the best in battles. A girl had heard of Milun and confessed her love for Milun and he promised her his love and loyalty. He then sends her a token of his promise, a gold ring. “He gave her the ring and told her that he had done what she asked. The girl was delighted at the love she was being offered” (45). Their love was so deep for each other, she ended up getting pregnant. She was not very fond of this idea. She knew that Milun would be upset. “She told him what had happened she has lost her honor and good mane when she got herself into this situation” (57). She was terrified that she would be “tortured by the sword or sold into slavery” (61). When Milun heard about the situation, he was willing to do whatever she asked of him. He was sent to give the child in Northumbria to her sister. While he went away to deliver the child to her sister, she was set up by her father with a nobleman and she was taken away by her new husband. When he was traveling to Northumbria, he creates a messaging system with a swan, where he hides letters in between the feathers. As they send the swan back and forth to each other, he tells her to starve the swan and send it back so it looks for food on its way back home. This continues for an on-going twenty years. When Marie mentions the swan, it symbolizes this delicate and fragile love that is going on between the girl and Milun. When they starve the swan during the messaging, it represents this suffering love between them, but once it heads back, it flourishes. It portrays that love is not always a happy thing. There will be a time where love faces neglect. Throughout the story, Marie also mentions this idea of “the most direct route” (175). It portrays the idea of love being “the most direct route”. The fact that love knows where to go, there is no right, there is no left, it is a…

The topic I have chosen to discuss is the function and meaning of dreams and dreaming in fantasy texts. Dreaming, in this context, is an implicit representation of the characters ideals and their wants. I believe the function of dreaming in fairy tales to be a temporary escape from ones reality, a reflection of ones true desires, as well as a tool that gives dimension to the characters, while at the same time allowing the reader to better understand the mind of the characters. This is demonstrated with the characters of Cinderella, in the different versions of Cinderella in the classic Fairy Tales, as well as with Isabelle Marie, in Mad Shadows.…

With many variations of fantasies, "Happily ever after" is reoccurring in every fairy tale. "Cinderella" by Anne Sexton is a different variation of the classic tale. The author sets up her version of Cinderella with four anecdotes sharing how others can go from poverty to riches or gritty reality to fantasy. Sexton changes her happily ever after ending by satirizing the message the story gives. By doing so, Sexton would like the reader to know the difference between a fairy tale and reality. Anne Sexton deconstructs the ending of her retold fairy tale by using sarcasm to change the reader's expectations of the story and myth.…

The characters, a girl and boy who send love letters to one another, even though the letters will most likely never be read by the other, “i will keep writing like we promised to do, i hate it, but will keep writing. you keep writing too, okay?” (p. 8). The two continue writing, believing the other is as well. Over time the girl hears about a boat that had sunk off the coast of the Bahamas, where the boy had been going. She figures that her beloved has drowned, “Behind these mountains are more mountains and more black butterflies still and a sea that is endless like my love for you” (p. 29). The complex characters of the two, boy and girl and their love for each other is so heartwarming. When the boy drowns and the girl gets so sad and down, you can see the mood clearly. The mood of depression and everything is hopeless, not even love can…

This story has so many topics to touch on yet it’s only five pages in my textbook. And not only were the topics intertwined with one another, they all came together to help out Marguerite with one of her many life lessons, confidence. Not everyone would agree with me that this reading had to do with confidence, but it’s what I related to with the writer. It’s like she wrote a small passage of my life from my younger years. That feeling of being scared in front of others, when one is put on the spot. The thought of rejection from someone, who peaks your interest. The little hints you look for from others to get a sense of acceptance. As a kid, these were things I struggled with as well. These are subjects that were not taught plainly at school. We have to learn some things, through ordinary life lessons, that don’t come with a book. That’s where you learn things that aren’t taught by…
