Marijuana is a drug that people love and may hate. Weed produces a pleasurable feeling too many people and to others it produces relief. THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) the ingredient in marijuana that produces the high, remains in the body for 2 to 4 weeks (Cary, 2006) Marijuana impairs attention and coordination and slows reaction time, and these effects make operating complex machinery such as an automobile dangerous, even after the feeling of intoxication has passed. Marijuana can interfere with concentration, logical thinking, formation of new memories, and retrieval of stored memories (Niyuhire et al., 2007; Verdejo-Garcia et al., 2005). Many of the receptors for THC are in the hippocampus which explains why the drug affects Memory (Genen, 2012). (Boyd, Green, and Wood 135) There are many different things that marijuana does to effect human behavior; it can affect internal and external body parts: The lungs, the brain, the skin, the eyes, and even the sex organs. Marijuana is also known to help cancer patients, or people with chronic pains. The question always asked, is Marijuana harmless or secretly harmful? Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Miley Cyrus, and even Oprah Winfrey have smoked pot before. Well established celebrities that have a strong fan base can influence them to continue the habit many celebrities speak about smoking weed and glorifying it, therefore kids will definitely see no harm in it or will jump on the bandwagon and then a never ending cycle begins. Lady Gaga even said “I smoke a lot of pot when I write Music”. What most people don’t understand is the celebrities’ get the same issues that but they have the money to make sure that the problems do not show, access to the best doctors, money. Although weed is cheap and easy to get the damages that it does to your body is 100 times more expensive. Depending on what people chose to smoke on: Bongs, Cigar paper, zig zag roll up, pipes, etc. It is important to know the dangers of that and the dangers of the actual smoke your inhaling into your lungs. Many smokers aren’t aware that the smoke of marijuana, like that of tobacco, consists of a toxic mixture of gases and particulates, many of which are known to be harmful to the lungs. Someone who smokes marijuana regularly may have many of the same respiratory problems that tobacco smokers do, such as daily cough and phlegm production, more frequent acute chest illnesses, and a greater risk of lung infections. Even infrequent marijuana use can cause burning and stinging of the mouth and throat, often accompanied by a heavy cough. One study found that extra sick days used by frequent marijuana smokers were often because of respiratory illnesses. (“How Does Marijuana Use affect your Brain and Body” web) With the type of utensil used to smoke the Marijuana that alone can cause abnormalities. Blunts or the paper of the cigar as many people would say is used more often to make the smoke last longer, but what people don’t know until they start to see it is discoloration of the lips, but you can also be at a higher risk of oral cancer as well, smokers are six times more likely to develop oral cancer than non smokers. Marijuana isn’t just a full danger it can also be considered a medicine for rare cases. Medical Marijuana is often used for nausea with cancer patients. It can also be used for muscle spasms caused by multiple sclerosis, seizure disorders, Crohn’s disease, etc. Usually Marijuana is created with more THC, but medically the Marijuana is made with more CBD for certain cases that uses their brain to calm down without the high that THC produces. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a compound in cannabis that has medical effects but does not make people feel “stoned” and can actually counter the psychoactive effects of THC. After decades in which only high-THC Cannabis was available, CBD-rich strains are now being grown by and for medical users...
