In the early 1990s, one in every fifty college students used marijuana daily or nearly everyday. In 2013, one in every twenty college students used marijuana daily or everyday. Marijuana is the most widely used illicit drug in 34 years of the survey. The daily use of marijuana is at the highest among college students. About fifty-one percent of full-time college students have used an illicit drug at some point in their lives. Thirty-nine percent of college students used one or more drugs 12 months before the survey. One in eleven men use marijuana and one in every thirty-four women use marijuana. College students also use the amphetamine Adderall for nonmedical use. Students use the drug to stay awake, concentrate, preparing for tests, and …show more content…
The use of Ecstasy has declined from 2002 to 2007 from 9.2 to 2.2. it rose to 5.8% prior to the 12 months and 2012, and it was at a 5.3% in 2015. The use of narcotic drugs like Vicodin or OxyContin, peaked in 2006 at 8.8% in college students without the use of medical supervision. And it has dropped 25.4% in 2012. Less than 1% of college students use inhalants, crack cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, Bath salts, GHB, and ketamine. Female college students are less likely to use drugs other than Male college students. Forty percent of college males use marijuana in the past year compared to the thirty-three percent of college females. Twenty-four percent of males used some illicit drugs other than marijuana or while females used sixteen percent. Alcohol remains largely used in colleges. About seventy-two percent of college student said they drank at least once in the past 12 months. More than fifty-eight percent said they have gotten drunk at least once in the past 12 months.
