Some kids will call elderly people a witch just like Lizabeth and her friends did in Marigolds. When they saw Miss Lotie, Lizabeth called her a witch, although at the end of the story Lizabeth said, “The witch was no longer a witch, but only a broken old woman who had dared to create beauty in the midst of ugliness and sterility.” Lizabeth saw the witch as the person she really was as she matured in the story.
