Margaret Atwood's Allegory Of The Cave

In the book Push precious is similar to one of the prisoners in “Allegory of the Cave” because they both started in the cave. This is true because while they were in the cave they both faced some similar oppression. To begin, when precious got out of the hospital and straight home her mom tried to kill her so precious says ¨Gonna kill me wif her ¨BARE HANDS¨ it's like a black wall gonna crash on me¨ (Precious 74). This is significant because when precious return home as well the ¨cave” she is getting oppressed by her mom when she describes that her mom is going to kill her since she had a baby. This connects to “Allegory of the Cave” because so she is trapped inside the cave just how when the prisoner came back and told the other prisoners
This is true because they both were able to do and see new things out of the cave. First, when precious is starting to learn how to read she says “She make me feel good. I never readed nuffin before”(Precious 65). This highlights that when precious is finally out of the cave and she in each one teach one she is able to learn how to read and not facing any kind of oppression. This relates to “Allegory of the Cave” because when the prisoner is released and out of the cave he is able to see new things that he never saw in the cave just like precious is able to learn new words that she never thought she would learn. Additionally, in “Allegory of the Cave” when the socrates was talking about how the prisoner reaction will be once he is liberated socrates says “And first he will see the shadows best, next the reflections of men and other in the water..”(Plato). This illustrates that once the prisoner is liberated he is able to experience new things knowing what is reality and what was fake. This connects to precious because at then end precious is liberated not living at her house which she got abused by her mom and now living in a halfway
