Maple Tree High School: A Short Story

The temperature increased drastically as fifty kids ran around the border of the gym. A distinct odor of sweat and feet filled the air as the kids ran nonstop. They were running as a punishment. At Maple Tree High School, there is a strict policy of rules. One of them being that you must be quiet whenever an adult/teacher is speaking to you. In gym class, this rule was broken, so they ran the whole time. Each period of the day was fifty minutes long. Zoe happened to be one of the fifty kids in this class. So she had to run like everyone else. As the period came to an end, Zoe’s stomach began to twist. Even though she was already sweating, she began to get VERY hot. Her head was spinning in circles. With the little control she had over her body, she decided that she must go get her phone from her locker and call her mom to pick her up.
As Zoe opened her locker, a teacher by the name of Mrs. Smith came out of her room to supervise. Zoe grabbed her phone and called her mom. “What do you think you are doing young lady? You know that phones are not allowed in this school, no matter what the circumstance is. Put that phone away and go to class or else I will write you up.” Demanded Mrs. Smith. Zoe’s heart began to race faster than she can keep up with. The next thing she knew, everything was black. Nothing was happening. Zoe had just passed out in the middle of the hallway. No one there to help her or call for help. This is why students must be allowed to use cell phones in school. These reasons are that students can learn in a way that they are comfortable, teachers can teach their students about technology, and students can reach their parents in case of
