Mandatory Public Service
Should the United States Establish Mandatory Public Service for Young Adults?
Why does the word mandatory is so controversial? The word mandatory might cause disagreement among persons, though, it might actually not be a terrible idea when it comes to public service. In this particular scenario, civic service does not necessarily signify military service, for example, it could suggest activities such as tutoring and mentoring, teach computer skills, clean parks and streams, manage or operate after-school programs, and help communities to respond to accidental or natural disasters. There has been some proposal to implement a plan to encourage young adults to become involved in community service. For instance, a ten-point plan for creating a universal national service, and the government buying a “baby bound” for every American newborn, maturing to around nineteen thousand dollars by the time the baby reached young adulthood. The only requirement in this specific idea is one year of dedicated national service. Another example is a proposed bill in congress called the GIVE Act that would basically expand national services programs such as AmeriCorps from a current seventy-five thousand participants to a two hundred fifty thousand volunteers. While this proposal does not make national service obligatory, it ensure that people

A year working in the military service would make young adults feel proud to be an American. Citizens of the United States perceive the people working in the military as heroes, because that’s what they are, they make sure America is safe from outside and inside threats. However, not only soldiers are considered heroes, persons that work combating accidental or natural disasters are as well. Having a mandatory public service will make sure America has the people needed to combat disaster or enemies inside or outside of the country at any

I do not agree with the reinstitution of a military draft. In 1973 the military draft was lifted in the United States and with good reason. The United States should not rely on a draft to fill military vacancies but rely on recruitment. It is true that the military offers incentives and luxuries that some civilians could not afford otherwise such as food, shelter, and medical care. However, they are just that, incentives. The military is an option and should remain that way. Many enlist for different reasons, some with economical reasons, others with strong political urges, but they enlist out of their own desires, beliefs, and more importantly, free will. Some see the military as a way of life; others see it as the only way to educate themselves in a society where education is valued so highly. With rising tuition costs, many enlist in the reserves as a guarantee for their degree. College is costly and even with the aid of tuition assistance and can leave a graduate drowning in debt. These are all choices all college bound 18-25 year olds make and some just do not have the luxury of choosing.…

As of today, the military has a volunteer service only as its profile. As stated in a Farlex dictionary a military volunteer is “a person who freely enlists for service”. Any american citizen over 18 can volunteer for any branch regardless of gender, ethic, or religion. Other than soldiers, doctors, lawyers, scientists and a wide range of other careers are recruited and used in the military. The volunteer system supports the Declaration of Independence's phrase of guaranteeing citizens the right to “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” by giving Americans the freedom of choice to chose to serve the country, or live about freely. The majority of America doesn't like the idea of having a draft introduced again, since it doesn’t exactly fit the phrase of “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness”, in all aspects of citizens trying to achieve the “American Dream”. Though the majority of citizens is…

Also, our military plays a major role in our nation. Without a military our nation would not be what it is today. Some families are military families and raise their children with the intentions or hopes of them going into the military. Whereas some families raise their children to be afraid of the military and teach them that war is a very bad thing. Other families let their children chose the military life but are behind them all the way. It used to be that women were not allowed to be a part of the military and today in some families still frown upon. Without the families that teach their children to take on the great responsibility of serving in the military our nation would cease to exist. Serving in our nation’s military is the ultimate duty.…

Personally I don’t believe that the U.S. should make citizens serve in the military. I believe this because people should be able to choose what they want to do in life and what they want to study and what they want to make of themselves. Often people don’t even have the physical strength or abilities to join the military, or the mental state to serve. Yes, I know that our country needs protection but we need other things too.…

In some countries, every young person must serve two years of military service. The general public in the United States feels that we should allow that in our country while other people disagree. A two-year period of military service should be mandatory for all young adults, but making the devotion to serving that time in the military should be each individual’s decision. Personally, young adults should be able to live their lives of how they want it, and other mature people should be able to volunteer for the military. Each individual should be able to make their own choices in life and not be forced to do something they strongly disagree with. Granting opportunities to young and mature people will help the military enlist a mature recruit, strengthen the military clan, and attract even more people to join in the military. We should be able to grant choices to the young and mature adults and respect their decision.…

    Military Draft Essay

The draft would be a good way to divide the burden of war so it doesn’t solely affect the people who really want to aid their country. When people feel like the draft is unconstitutional, the draft doesn’t deprive them rights, rather than giving them the right to “defend their country”.(Say Registration or Draft Not Needed 1979) Many people believe that war is bad, and I can agree, but being drafted doesn’t necessarily mean going immediately to war, you could be drafted in a time of no major conflicts and assist in a safe yet vital role in the military as a doctor, nurse or something as simple as a cook to be able to prepare food for hungry troops. For those that volunteer rather than being drafted, carry all the burden on their shoulders while…

What would happen if we don’t let the citizen of this country participate in there civic duty? “i will tell you” The government would not be in a good state at all because they would make most of the decisions for us sort of like a dictatorship; but they will be force to do this if we do not contribute to our civic duty.…

Should the United States require all adults to perform one year of community service by the age of 30? I personally think this is a topic that is not at all, relevant. I believe if someone wants to lend a helping hand, then they should lend a helping hand. If you don't prefer to do this kind of community service, the government shouldn't force you to do so. There would be a lot of change in how community service is done today if the government required at least one year to be served by the age of 30.…

In the society that is today, we have all kinds of different forms of government in different areas. Around the world, government is implemented in countries to help and govern the people of the country. However, in order to assist the country, governments have to depend on some forms of voting from its citizens to understand and learn about the preferences and ideas of the citizens. In specifics, America uses representative democracy to gather information, as they view voting as a civic responsibility and a fundamental principle of democracy to select leaders who will have the same ideas as they do. However, as more and more knowledge and ideologies are formed, more people think that there are issues and problems to the already set system…

In many countries, at times of national and local elections, often only a small part of the population casts a ballot. In order to address this problematic issue, many governments take the aggressive measure of compulsory voting to constitute more public involvement in politics. Even though the government believes this is going to solve this issue, there are many drawbacks to this approach for example; this method is unconstitutional, citizens lives are jeopardized, and the results of the elections are dangerously compromised.…
