I believe a manager should possess 3 basic traits. They are self-awareness, curiosity and independency. Let me elaborate more on this. First and foremost, in order to manage others one must first be able to understand oneself and manage themselves. To understand oneself one must be self-aware. They must know what biases they have so when it comes time to make decisions, they can make a clear concise bias free decision. Also when one is self-aware, they can keep their emotions and feelings out of the equation when deciding. Secondly, a manager should be someone who is curious because curious people will not only look at the surface but also dig deeper into the situation to find out what is actually happening. After looking at a situation from different angles, then they can try new approaches to find out if the real deal is actually what they forecast. Lastly, a manager has to be independent because they are the one who is making the crucial decisions. Many times a manager will listen to others for opinions but the final decision has to have gone through critical thinking and be made solely on the manager’s behalf.…

All of these characteristics are characteristics of a knowledge and value based manager. The first one is vision; this helps because everyone starts something with a view of what it will become. This will also help motivate the staff to do their best because knowing the company succeeded is because the whole team has worked together. You need a vision so you have a goal or something to work towards. A manager needs to be efficient, because they have many responsibilities that need to be fulfilled and people depending on them. They also need to be organized because they have so many responsibilities and tasks that need to be done in a timely manner.…

I would add qualities of a good leader such as flexibility. A good manager should be flexible so as to accommodate the many changes he might come across in course of management. These may include a change in the work environment. I do still agree with the poor qualities originally identified. There are managers who portray very poor management qualities as identified originally. Some of the poor qualities of a leader identified include failure to communicate, dictatorship, disrespect as well as discrimination amongst employees. A poor manager will display qualities of poor management by showing discriminating among his employees. This means that the manager favours some of the employees. The discrimination brings about division in the organization hence no good team work (Jillyan,…

According to Alissa, the three most important qualities of a good supervisor are organization, dependability and knowledge. It is important that a manager is organized because a manager needs to be able to supervise their employees, supervise their employees’ workloads and complete their own assignments. If an employee does not finish their work, their manager is ultimately responsible. To complete their own work efficiently and effectively, your employees also need a dependable manager who they can trust when they need help with their assignment. However, it is not just enough to be there. A good manager must also be knowledgeable enough to help their employees when they run into issues with their work. Managers need to be knowledgeable of their employees’ strengths and weaknesses, assignments, and projects their employees are working on. Managers also need to be knowledgeable of the content of the work and how to help employees get answers, meet deadlines and overcome obstacles.…

Similarly managers are leaders and their leadership greatly determines the attitude of those under them. Business owners and managers employ any means at their disposal in an effort to maximize their profits. Many people associate the success of a business with the gifts and talents of its managers. During my career in the healthcare field, I have worked alongside some great managers. I also had my share of a poor manager. I learned from my past experiences, and I know what traits to have in the future as manager. I believe there are four qualities a person should have to be an excellent manager. First, a manager should have a good attitude. Attitude and energy set the tone for the day. A great manager knows when to hold certain situations lightly and when to drive certain situations with a high degree of urgency. Second, manager should have the maturity; they must be able to control their emotions. They know that if they feel frustrated, it is best to go for a walk. They don’t overreact and lose they're cool in the office. The third quality manager must be flexible. Flexible manager knows it’s all about the employees. They know that each employee is different, and they should spend time getting to know each employee on their team. The last quality is making sure all employees are accountable for their action and…

While deciding how to classify each characteristic I think both, knowledge and value, can be attached to some of these characteristics. When a manager knows what his or her mission or purpose is within the organization he or she understands and is willing to work towards accomplishing the mission to the best of his or her ability. An excellent manager is always aware of how the organization can be the best it can be by knowing what changes need to be made. Organizational ability means keeping track of what the group is doing, and handling mistakes in a way that improves how the organization operates. Being able to convey ideas so that the people involved are willing to participate shows good communication skills. Trust means performing in a constant and reliable way, and holding true to one way of doing things within the organization. Confidence in one’s knowledge and skills provides a platform for creativity, self. Knowing how to express a vision to others inspires them to be as enthusiastic about it and willing to participate in the process as the manager is. Treating others with respect and acknowledging their efforts and accomplishments goes a long way, and is empowering. Meaning is being able to rally others into performing by doing their part to help make a vision manifest into…

Knowing how to be a good manager and knowing what actually makes a good manager is key to a good, positive work flow. One good quality that I believe a manager should have would be good communication skills. Making your employees feel valued will make your employees attitude towards work go a lot farther. Another good quality that a manager should have would be to provide positive feedback and recognition to their employees. Being recognized for hard work and the dedication that employees put into the company every day to keep it running smoothly will not only help with positive attitudes but will encourage less call offs and a better overall work environment. Lastly, another good quality that I believe makes a good manager is asking your employees what you can do as a manager to help make the work place better. It will help the employees feel like they are actually involved with the company and not just another individual who got hired.…
