males and females style of conversations
Male and Female styles of Conversation
To begin with, Communication is the activity of conveying information through the exchange of thoughts, messages, or information, as by speech, visuals, signals, writing, or behavior. It is the meaningful exchange of information between two and a group of living creatures. Also any act by which one person gives to or receives from person information about that person's needs, desires, perceptions, knowledge, or affective states. Communication may be intentional or unintentional, may involve conventional or unconventional signals, may take linguistic or non-linguistic forms, and may occur through spoken or other modes. Communication requires a sender, a message, and a recipient, although the receiver doesn't have to be present or aware of the sender's intent to communicate at the time of communication which can occur across vast distances in time and space.

While much has been said about women and men being from different planets and having their own cultures, the reality is that we have all grown up on the same planet, and interact with each other in different ways on a daily basis. It’s fun to look at communication differences between men and women but we also have to be careful to not stereotype and assume that all men will act a certain way and all women will act a certain way. We are all on a continuum and there are women that have some traits that might be attributed to the male style or there are times when it is necessary to use the male style and the same for men. Women are more likely to talk to other women when they have a problem or need to make a decision. Men keep their problems to themselves and don’t see the point in sharing personal issues.

Another, women are more relationship oriented, and look for commonalities and ways to connect with other women. Men tend to relate to other men on a one-up, one-down basis. Status and dominance is important. Women focus on building rapport, by sharing experiences

When I look at the topic male-female communication, the first thing that comes up to my mind is that man and woman must have a very good communication, because there are only men and women in the world. But as I think a little bit deeper, there is something different between a man and a woman, different types of talking styles, different ways of thinking, and different point of views. For instance, if a guy thinks that he spends too much time on his girlfriend, but somehow she might think that he doesn't have enough time to be with her, so that if they are not willing to communicate to solve this problem, they will break up very easily. So when two different kinds of people get together, problem and conflicts will appear between them. There are two articles "His Talk, Her Talk" by Joyce Maynard and "Man To Man, Woman To Woman" by Mark A. Sherman and Adelaide Haas. Both articles talk about the same topic male-female communication.…

Communication is a very important factor in human life. Without communication our lives would be dull because we wouldn't learn from each other or keep up with what is occurring around us every day. Men and women communicate in the same form, but each of them oppose in certain aspects of communication that may cause interference between both sexes. Why do we differ so much to often cause uncomfortable social situations between each other? In this chapter, Floyd (2011) discusses the many ways that gender affects interpersonal relationships. He describes is as a “defining feature of our identity, shaping the way we think, look, and communicate” (p. 51). It is explained that each gender culture puts emphasis on different parts of the relationship. Women come to value communication and closeness, while men value taking part in activities together (Floyd, 2011, p. 57). This makes sense when I think about how I communicate with men versus with women.…

Whether a male or a female, no one should ignores gender patterns. “Generalizing about groups of people makes many of us nervous. We like to think of ourselves as unique individuals, not representatives of stereotypes. But it is more dangerous to ignore patterns than to articulate them,” (Tannen 213). Men and women have the difference in the way they talk, even they live or work together. People like to think of ourselves as unique individuals, not representatives of stereotypes. In order to articulate these patterns, we have to focus on three aspects that cause people problem to ignore patterns of gender. They are differences in conversation goals, asking for direction and trouble talk.…

Also in the book, Men are From Mars and Women are From Venus, John Gray (2004) wrote: “Men mistakenly expect women to think, communicate, and react the way men do; women mistakenly expect men to feel, communicate, and respond the way women do. But there are actually quite a few similarities as well. It is said that woman tend to be a lot more verbal than men. Men in fact, have that same quality depending on their upbringing. My husband for an example can be quite the talker. During our discussions I am lucky if I am able to get more than a few sentences out. Men and women who share similar social backgrounds possess and use similar vocabularies as well. Social background influences vocabulary far more than gender does. Men and women are about equally verbally assertive. Although, sometimes voice timber may have an influence upon perceived assertiveness. I have a tendency to think that communication cannot be categorized with regards to gender. There happens to be a lot of generalization when deciding which gender does what when…

When it comes to communication, it is said that men got the short end of the stick. For example, when women don't talk to each other for a couple of days, sometimes those days will be seen as the friendship is coming to an end. If a man does not talk to his friend on a regular basis, to a man that just means that their friend is either busy or is just hanging with other friends. Men are better with confrontation then women. A man will come right out and tell his…
