Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas: Goals and Motivation
Malcolm X and Frederick Douglas are two famous story about the African American in the 20th century. They are both a slave and did not have a chance to go to school to study English. However, they had a motivation to study how to read and write by themselves. Malcolm X studied English by copying all the words in the dictionary, which he borrowed from the Charlestown Prison Colony. Meanwhile, Frederick Douglas tried to read so many books, and learned from other kids, who can read and write. They had the same goal and motivation. However, they did it in different methods to reach their goal.

The Frederick Douglas story tell me about the slave who named Frederick Douglass learn how to read and write. He lived in Master Hugh’s family about seven years. During this time , he succeed in learning to read and write. He did not have a regular teacher at that time. His teacher was many little white boys who he met in the street. Unfortunately, his mistress who was his slaveholder did not like him spend time to learn read and write. Nothing seemed to make her more angry than to see him with a newspaper. He tried to make friend of all the little boys whom he met in the street. As many of these as he could, he converted into teachers. Therefore, with their kindly aid, obtained at different times and in different places, he finally succeed in learning how to read. After that, he got hold of a book entitled “ The Columbian Orator” and every chance he got, he used to read this book. He found in this book the slave was rep-resented to as having run away from his mater three times. In my opinion, this book give him several ideas about freedom. Furthermore, the reading of these document enable him to utter my thoughts, and to meet the arguments brought forward to sustain slavery. However, while they relieved him of one difficulty, they brought him another even more painful than the one which he was relieved. In addition, as he read and

    Fredrick Douglass was born into slavery in 1818, he spent his youth being sold from plantation to city, then all over again. At a point during his youth, he realized that slavery was wrong, and eventually once becoming aware of the north, he planned to one day escape captivity and be free. His conviction to reveal this story, was not hindered or halted by the fact that he would be exposing himself to the public, which often for an escaped slave would be a dangerous situation. The book was first published in 1845 when Douglass was twenty-seven, at this time slavery was legal, and the book that he had just published was incriminating evidence full of names, dates, and times, which make it very easy for someone to find him and return him to captivity by law.…

    Douglass knowing that he could no longer be educated by Mrs. Auld, he would look for other methods to teach himself. Douglass’s determination to be educated guided him well.
