Malcolm X used literacy as the main tool to gain knowledge. If Malcolm X were alive today he would have been just as likely to have needed and valued literacy. Writing can be used as a means of increasing understanding of complex subjects. Technology can prove to be too distracting for cognitive learning. Malcolm X used writing as a way to memorize and better understand words. While imprisoned in the Charleston Prison he began to copy the dictionary from beginning to end. In doing so Malcolm started thinking about the words he had written down and even remembering their meanings. In today[‘]s era of TV and video Malcolm X would have surely valued literacy equally as he did in his time.…
Malcolm Little or Malcolm X as most people know him by, was born on May 19, 1925. He was a foster child after he lost his father and his mother was sent to a mental hospital. When he was only in the eighth grade, he wanted to be a lawyer and his teacher told him that he was better of becoming a carpenter because he was black and that he should use his hands. When Malcolm became of age, he dropped his last name…
America’s most well-known Civil Rights’ activist, Martin Luther King, believed it was never right to use violence. His nonviolent activism achieved more genuine progress towards racial equality in American history. In his famous “I Have a Dream” speech, King declared that America would be a land of freedom where all men are created equal. Malcolm X, who was also one of the most historically known Human Rights’ activist and advocate for the rights of African-American, had a different approach and perspective. Malcolm X was willing to use “by any means necessary”, violent or nonviolent, to achieve civil right and equality. They both share the same goal but using violence to bring social change will only make the tension between the two parties…

During Malcolm's early years, his family moved several times because of racism. They moved from Omaha, Nebraska, after being threatened by the Ku Klux Klan. Definitions and words have many misconceptions. Everyone views things differently. People of different races, age, sex, and religion may think differently than I would. Disagreements are common to encounter and stereotyping plays a huge role. One word that interest me the most is self-interest. While everyone has a different point of view on this word, I believe self-interest means more than what the dictionary states.…
Throughout history America has not lived up to the founding ideal of equality for all. There have been many cases in America where people have been persecuted based on their gender, race or religion. Now that is not to say that the same cannot be said about everywhere else in the world, historically persecution against certain groups of people has always existed. However, for a country founded on freedom and equality America has had failures, from slavery, to gender inequality to modern day racism. Malcolm X grew up in a tough place for an African American; he was constantly judged for the color of his skin. He was persecuted throughout his life. He decided that that was not the life he wanted to live so he attempted to change his life to the way he thought was fair.…
1. “The teaching of Mr. Muhammad stressed how history had been ‘whitened’—when white men had written history books”(P.213). From this sentence, I found the word “whitened” very interesting. It was rare to describe the history being “whitened”. Then Malcolm had explained, what he meant by “whitened” history. It was how the white races actually dominant and created history, since they were the people who wrote history, so history was written in the white’s point of views.…

Malcolm X was destined to become one of the most celebrated activists of the civil rights movement. Malcolm Little, his real name, was born in Nebraska and was one of eight children. His father was a well-known pastor who was also a supporter of the civil rights and because of it made a few enemies. The family had to move a few times because people didn’t like his support of the movement. The Black Legion, which was the white supremacist group that was against Mr. Little, continuously sent death threats.
