Major Long Term Causes
The major long term causes were Militarism, Alliances, Nationalism, and imperialism. The first cause was militarism; this was the glorification of one’s military. Next we have alliances, this was like when two countries were helping each other out. Many of the people fighting in the war did this to gain power. After this comes nationalism. Germany for example had great nationalism, they felt like they were unstoppable. On the other hand, the French felt embarrassed about what they had, this was because they had no nationalism. Lastly we have imperialism. This was a major long term cause in the “Great War”. This was the control over one country by another.
