Maggie And Dee Character Analysis

DNA is a similarity that all siblings share. Through their DNA siblings have physical similarities as well as mental similarities. Nonetheless, having the same DNA does not at all make you the same. This is displayed in the story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker. In this short story, Alice Walker tells about two sisters by the names of Maggie and Dee, who in some ways have similarities, but in other ways they have differences including: their motivations, personalities, and their point of view on preserving their heritage. To me motivation is the reason why a person would keep going toward something even after all hope has died. Dee’s motivation to get the family’s quilts was to display them as if they were some type of art and probably show them off to people to boast. The personality of a person is based on their characteristics and qualities. Maggie is a shy and insecure girl because of her appearance, for example, “Showing just enough of her thin body enveloped in pink skirt and red blouse for me to know she’s there” (Walker 52).
