Opinion of Macbeth
Question: Analyze how the writer influenced you to change your opinion throughout the text about a significant idea.

Shakespeare wrote Macbeth in the 16th century as tribute to king James the first. At the start of the text king Duncan made me believe that anyone could be a good leader, Duncan effectively portrayed this idea because he put the needs of his country in front of his own. Throughout the text Shakespeare influenced my opinion to change when Macbeth came into power as he cared about no one but himself; Shakespeare influences re seen well through the techniques soliloquies, irony and contrast.

King Duncan is a good leader whose only concern is his country. Macbeth is the thane of Glamis; he is an honorable warrior that has potential to be a good leader. He is described as a “peerless kinsmen” who doesn’t want to risk his status therefore avoids evil, the beginning of the novel makes me believe that anyone can be a good leader that is until the weird sisters foretell Macbeths prophesies one of which states that he is to be king. Macbeth’s unchecked ambition and persuasion from Lady Macbeth makes him peruse to kill Duncan and become the King of Scotland. Shakespeare effectively uses contrast to show the effect of ambition and evil on humans, the contrast between Duncan and Macbeth influenced me to change my opinion on the idea that anyone can be a good leader, Shakespeare does this by presenting Duncan as an excellent king, who is very trusting and gullible and although holding a lot of power in his hands he doesn’t abuse it and become corrupt by power, In contrast Shakespeare portrays Macbeth as an honorable warrior who would never stoop to murder, but Macbeths unchecked ambition drives him to battle with his conscious and in conclusion pursue to kill King Duncan. When Macbeth gains power over Scotland he becomes more callous and only cares for his own needs which in contrast is different to King Duncan who only cared for the needs of his

The play of Macbeth has themes in it which can be associated with people who live in our world today. In Macbeth we see a king who abuses his power and uses it for the wrong reasons. He almost always get away with it. Despite the fact that there were people that were suspicious of Macbeth, he was never brought to justice with some of his deeds. In this play we also find out about the lengths that Macbeth went to, so he could become king and to also stay as king. The similarities between people in today’s society are that the lengths that they will go to, to achieve their goal such as power. Macbeth also draws parallels with some people today. They have all had someone better than them, ahead of them, and the only way to get in front of their position was to take them out. Macbeth does this in the play by killing Duncan so he can become king and feel happy with all his power. Macbeth also takes out the competition around him so nothing will disturb his reign as what he believes to be his glory. Another theme we get out of Macbeth is that he only thinks about himself. He doesn’t care that he attempts to kill innocent people such as Banquo’s son as well as Banquo or anybody else. He shows that he is selfish and only thinks about himself…

Where is he? He is never late! It couldn't of taken him this long. He has left me here, impatiently striding up and down this ridiculously tiny room. He's done this on purpose, leaving me anxious, worried, but at the same time a little bit excited. Me, Lady Macbeth, I have managed to wrap a man around my little finger. A woman? I know this is wrong but the devilish feeling has climbed into my stomach, like your nervous, but excited. Almost as though your about to put on a performance, but in reality, this is much worse.…

Macbeth and his selfish needs conflicted with the Chain of Being and the superior power it held. Instead of choosing to continue down his normal path, Macbeth follows a different path when he realizes how much power he is capable of obtaining. This path would lead him to be king, the highest possible power on earth. He had already been given the tittles, “Thane of Glamis” and “Thane of Cawdor” by the king, but because of his avid greed to become more powerful he was not satisfied with just that. He would let nothing get in the way, “[Malcolm] The prince of Cumberland! This is a step on which I must fall down or else o’erleap, for in my way it lies.” (Shakespeare.1.4.55-57). He knew the next in line to the throne would be Duncan’s older son, Malcolm and so Macbeth reveals to the reader in an aside, his greedy side and the problem he sees that will keep him from his throne. Macbeth is so caught up in what he can gain, he is willing to ruin things for others in order to get it. “ If ill, why hath it given me earnest of success… If good, why do I yield to that suggestion whose horrid image doth unfix my hair…” (1.3.141-142,143-145).…

To be regarded as a great king involves many important factors such as being honorable, gracious, and fair. It is far more difficult to regard a king as being great than as being a failure. In Macbeth there are examples of great kings as well as failures as kings. Duncan is a fair and gracious king who is kind to all of his subjects, and Malcolm has the potential to be a great king through the way in which he fights to overthrow Macbeth. Macbeth, however, through his lack of noble qualities is another story. Through arrogance, actions, and cowardice versus bravery Macbeth emerges as the only true failure as a king.…

“If you do not create change, change will create you”. In other words, if you do not change willingly, change will ultimately modify who you are. The change can be exceptionally superb or awfully terrible. In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the character Macbeth drastically changes. As the play goes on, Macbeth transforms from being a loyal warrior to a traitorous murderer, a loved thane to a hated king, and a weak husband to a fearless killer.…

King Duncan was beloved of his nobles and citizens because of his good qualities. He also entitled Macbeth the Thane of Cawdor. Macbeth should be the one who respected and supported him. However, the prophecy of the three witches that Macbeth was going to be the King of Scotland provoked Macbeth’s ambition. He wanted to kill the king so that he could usurp the throne, but there were conflicts within him. He was Duncan’s kinsman and subject. He was also the king’s host. He should protect the king rather than kill the king. It was a mortal sin to kill one’s family member and his guest. What’s more, Duncan was a good king: He did good things in the government; he had great virtues and people loved him. And Macbeth would be judged if he killed the great king. Many worries conflicted in Macbeth’s mind. However, his ambition eventually drove him to commit murder.…

Every person possesses certain amounts of certain qualities to be a great leader. Some of those qualities are kindness, willingness and bravery. In Macbeth there are many characters in positions of power that may or may not withhold the qualities of a good leader. The king Duncan in my opinion withheld all the qualities to be a great leader. Macbeth on the other hand at one time had the qualities but then, when put into a position of power turned sour. Not very many people posses the qualities that are needed to be an amazing leader and can keep the qualities in a position of power. There are specific qualities for a good leader such as: honesty, loyalty, determined, motivational, dependable, self-controlled and broad minded, Duncan has all these qualities, although Macbeth does not.…

The choices we make every day are what shape who we are as human beings. To ask how many choices are made in a day is preposterous to ask because everything we do in life is a choice. The fact that I am writing this essay is a choice, what I eat today and how I chose to life my life are choices. Some of those choices can seem as insignificant as what we chose to wear to school, but what we learn is that no choice is insignificant. Others could be the difference between life and death. In his book “Choices” Dr. Shad Helmstetter stated “No one else can ever make your choices for you. Your choices are yours alone. They are as much a part of you as every breath you will take, every moment of your life.” This reinforces the idea that the choices we make yesterday are responsible for who we are today. It widely believed that we are in influenced by the people we associate with, this is the same with choices. Our choices are influenced by the people we associate with and events that have occurred earlier in our lives. Our choices not only affect our own lives, but the lives of the people around us, these effects can be positive or negative. Before we do something we need to stop and think about the impact that choice will have on not only ourselves, but also rest of the world. The problem is not everybody “stops and thinks”. That one seemingly unimportant problem is the cause of nearly every form of evil in our world and causes the many hardships we as humans endure. A piece of literature that relates to choices and their consequences is the play “Macbeth” by William Shakespeare. Whether it is Macbeth and Lady Macbeth orchestrating the murder of Duncan or Macduff refusing to attend Macbeth’s banquet, we see how the choices we make will hold an effect on us, even if it may not seem like it. In this essay I will explore the choices which lead to the character Macbeth’s downfall. In “Macbeth” William Shakespeare illustrates that the…

Evil. Immoral. Devious. However way one says it, they all mean the same. People associate these words with dark, sinister feelings that most try to avoid. In William Shakespeare’s play Macbeth, Lady Macbeth may be considered evil or immoral solely on the basis of her actions alone. The full presentation of Lady Macbeth in the play makes the audience react more sympathetically then they otherwise might.…
