Macbeth Newspaper Article Project
NEWSPAPER ARTICLE: DUNCAN’S MURDER

Individually, you will be writing a newspaper article about the murder of King Duncan.

1. Using your Map of Scotland, pick a city and create a name for your newspaper. For example, The Dunsinane Daily Journal (you are NOT allowed to use this example)
2. You must have a headline that includes a “hook” (something that grabs the reader’s attention and practically insists that he or she read the whole story). “King Duncan’s Dead!” is NOT an effective headline. It does nothing to draw the reader in. “Duncan Murdered, Macbeth Seizes Throne!” IS an effective headline (and one that you are NOT allowed to use).
3. You must include a picture with a caption. Example: a picture of a bloody knife with the caption, “One of the bloody knives found at the scene of the crime. Macbeth, Thane of Cawdor, executed the two men believed to have committed the crime, Duncan’s guardsmen.” Again, you are NOT allowed to use this example (you can have a picture a bloody knife but the caption must be different). If you have difficulty cutting and pasting a picture from your computer or the Internet into your document, I would suggest printing out your article and then adding the picture (don’t forget the caption).
4. The key elements of a newspaper report involve Who, What, Where, When, Why, and How (in this case, the “Why” and “How” are not known clearly, so you should include guesses as to the reason(s) for both). You must have a statement (or statements) that details the facts of the murder. You must mention King Duncan, his guards, Macbeth, and Lady Macbeth.
5. Remember: only Lady Macbeth and Macbeth know what REALLY happened. Therefore, your article should NOT include facts such as “Macbeth killed Duncan” or “Lady Macbeth smeared Duncan’s blood on the faces of his guardsmen.” You are reporting on what everyone believes to be the events of the evening.
6. The assignment is to be typed, single-spaced, in newspaper-style format (two columns).

Feature articles such as mine have a rather plain set out and plain heading but a big picture to entice the specific target audience to read the article. Feature articles like mine have bold text and flowing paragraphs to make it easier to read, especially since the target audience is teenagers and quite often pages of writing can be skipped by teenagers as they get distracted easily. My feature article has a rather bold headline to also catch the eye of teenage girls it reads “Diet pills consumed in large quantities by teen girls seeking athletic look” stating the words “teenage girls” in the text helps to entice readers and make them interested in the key topic of the article. This is important and done extremely well in my article, the actual text is fairly large and easy to read and the paragraphing is minimal making the text easier to read. The entire article has been set up for teenagers and has been made to look less formal than most feature articles to attract teens, and as you can imagine a big manuscript of text with no images is not going to entice a teenage…

"Bring Forth men-children only! For thy undaunted mettle should compose nothing but males."(I, vii, 73-75) Lady Macbeth is one of Shakespeare's most frightening and strong female characters. She is ambitious, lusts for power and will stop at nothing for it; she is truly evil. This is evident when she asks evil spirits to come unsex her, when she tries to manipulate Macbeth into committing a most sinful crime, and that she is actively part of the crime also.…

Tragedy is present in many of Shakespeare’s plays and can be interpreted in different perspectives. In the play Macbeth written by William Shakespeare, one can debate whether the protagonist Macbeth experiences tragedy. Macbeth slowly turns too evil and ambitious throughout the play to the point that when he is killed, the audience feels no pity for him. This is why Macbeth would not count as a tragedy. However Macbeth is a noble figure, he suffers a reversal of fortune and his moral flaws lead him to his downfall. Therefore, following the Aristotelian principles of tragedy, Macbeth must be considered as one of Shakespeare’s greatest tragic plays.…
