Macau Street Meaning
The difference between two street art what I took from Macau street. The first one, you can see it has three different themes: men with a strange smile, love is everything and an elephant is wondering about if bananas it favorite or not? However, I want to stress on the men with the strange smile. Because it just use the same patterns and have different size and angles to cram the wall. The patterns are very abstract, actually I can't really recognize what is it. But it gave me a feeling like there are many bald men smile viciously. Oddly, if I walked forward to the wall, then I only can see the figure with no meaning. Therefore, I think you need to use your imagination to create a story for this art. The most incredible thing is this art only

    I chose to analyze a sculpture from the classical era “The laocoon Group.” Looking at the pictures of the sculpture I can’ help but be drawn into all the small details of each piece of the sculpture. They went into grave detail to make sure every aspect of the sculpture was as detailed as it could be to almost bring it to life. The characters muscles and tone are outlined and use shadows to show how big and masculine their build is. The stance of each individual piece makes me feel like at any moment the sculpture could take a breath and come to life before my eyes. They also look like they are in a struggle or are trying to protect someone from some sort of danger.     It was my first time at that museum and I am surely I will be back to do the audio tour. The artwork I chose was Lovers In the Park by Francois Boucher and was made in 1758. I was attracted to this piece because I instantly recognized the Rococo style of painting in which I really enjoy. To have the opportunity to experience and physically see a Rococo painting in person truly brings to life everything we discussed in class such as the gentle brushstrokes and meaningful colors that are involved and used in the Rococo style. I decided to challenge my skills and try to interpret the meaning of the painting on my own. From my first few glimpses of the painting, I noticed how the couple on the right had wealthy looking attire so I’m assuming they are aristocrats. To the left, there is another woman walking by and it seems as if the man is smirking at her in almost a flirtatious way while his girlfriend is unaware and stares into space. I also noticed that there are two baby statues above them that seem to aware of what was going on as they looked down at the couple. to me, the baby statues were a symbol of innocence and the dog next to the couple was a symbol of loyalty. The expressions on the figures faces were soft and pleasant. The image confirmed to express that at that time men were wealthy and powerful, and were able to get away with having more than one spouse, although you can tell the girlfriend in the painting seems somewhat uneasy with the situation.     The Grotesque Analysis

    They each display a deformed body of a hybrid creature with human features combined with those of an animal. This gives an immediate disturbing feeling. I think we find such beings so disturbing to look at because we aren’t used to seeing human and animal features being mingled in this way. Each piece is standing in an identical hunched pose with its arms resting forward and the similar claws sitting over the edge of a platform. This threatening pose is typical in gargoyles of gothic architecture and one that Bourgeois has directly implemented in her work. One of the first things I noticed when looking at the two was that the gargoyle has a quite harsh and rough texture with a dull brown colour of the cathedral which fits well with the subject and its rough stone texture, while Bourgeois’ piece is quite the opposite with its smooth shape, simulating the appearance of a human-like form. The sculpture has a much cooler tone of blue which compliments its smooth texture. The coarse stone of the gargoyle and the smooth texture of the rubber in Nature Study are contrasted. Some viewers may see the pale blue in Nature Study that contradicts the grotesque form as somewhat comforting although others may disagree because while it is a much cooler colour, I believe it is not necessarily a very comforting or appealing sight to look at. The tone of blue almost looks deathly in nature, like it is portraying the colour of a corpse. So, similar ideas such as the intimidating pose of the deformed and unsettling hybrid figures can be compared and contrasting ideas are also shown within features that are portrayed in each work such as the obvious difference in texture and material…

    The eyes of the man give meaning to the title of the artwork. Without his facial expression I would just assume this painting would be titled ‘circles - man with a headache’.
