DISCUSSION 1.1 (3.5 HOURS)
Title: Solving Real-Life Problems Using Sequences
Read the following old English rhyme from one of the Rhind Mathematical Papyrus texts:

As I was going to St. Ives
I met a man with seven wives
Each wife had seven sacks
Each sack had seven cats
Each cat had seven kits [kittens]

Discuss the following questions:
1. Assuming that the speaker and the man with seven wives met while traveling in opposite directions, how many kittens, cats, sacks, and wives were going to St.Ives? Explain if you can connect your answer to sequences in any way.
2. Pick a real-life application using sequences, preferably from the financial applications, and state it in a few sentences.
3. Describe in three sentences what your strategy will be to solve the chosen application problem.
Participation Requirements:
Respond to at least two of your classmates. When responding:

Provide complete, well-thought-out responses.

Ask questions, share experiences, challenge ideas, and help your peers expand their responses.

One-sentence answers will not be sufficient. If your answer is "I agree" or "I disagree," explain why you agree or disagree. Remember that a discussion is an opportunity to interact with your fellow classmates.
Observe discussion etiquette: Be respectful, kind, and nonjudgmental of your classmates.
