MS13 Symbols
In MS-13 it is very important for them to be able to communicate without using words or at least words that would make them look suspicious. To avoid being caught they use symbols to communicate to one another. Symbols are a mark or character used as a conventional representation of an object, function, or process . Tagging is very common in gangs they use them to mark territories. They do this to warn other gangs from entering their territory or to mark new territory they have taken from rival gangs. If you enter a territory of a rival gang you are at risk of being attacked by that gang. They also do tagging in memoriam if someone in their clique has died. They usually make a tombstone and write their name in it along with MS13 symbols and symbols of their specific clique. Tagging is how they communicate with each other and other gangs about territories and deaths. …show more content…
Specific symbolism such as MS and they have devil horns. IN prisons they have these tattoos to show their allegiance to the gang and to communicate to other that they are MS13. The member also use hand signs to communicate with fellow members. They have developed a complicated series of hand motions to warn members a rely information. Most well know in the devil horns the original members derived it from the common ‘rock and roll’ hand sign they use in rock music. Symbolism is very big in the operation of MS13 it helps them communicate with members and rival gangs silently to avoid getting caught by authorities. M13 has created it very own norms and laws it runs on separate from the norms and laws of the United States. Norms are defined as something that is usual, typical, or standard and laws are the system of rules that a particular country or community recognizes as regulating the actions of its members and may enforce by the imposition of penalties.
